Hi folks. Is there a way of easily getting a word count of sections and endnotes?

I'm just coming to the final stages of my dissertation, so I apologise in advance for spamming this group, and thank anyone for your advice to my questions.

The short answer is "no, sorry."

The following is an answer I gave to a different XLingPaper user.  Maybe it will help some.

Hi, Hugh.

Others have asked this before.  See https://groups.google.com/g/xlingpaper/c/BQ4IMLYl-Bs/m/b8W8esLXBgAJ.

As you note in one message in that thread, a key question is, "What counts as a word?"  And, I, too, have seen different tools give different results.  Further, do interlinears count?  Do tables count?  Do various examples count?  Do captions count?  Do endnotes/footnotes count?  Do section/chapter titles count?  Do references count?  Do citations count?  Etc.

Right now, you'll need to produce PDF or Word to get a word count.

For the abstract, you can create a new paper document that has nothing in the title, no author, and just one section with nothing in it.  Copy your
abstract into it.   Then produce the PDF and have it tell you its count.  Edit the abstract until it's small enough (or large enough) and then copy the abstract back into your main document.
