Hi,

I'm not convinced this issue has anything to do with Xerxes, but I
thought I would see if anyone else out there was experiencing this
issue. When we search EBSCOhost for items and try to open the PDF, we
cannot get the links to open the articles. Here is an example:

LeNoue, Marvin, Tom Hall, and Myron Eighmy. "Adult Education and the
Social Media Revolution." Adult Learning, 22.2 (2011): 4-12.

This is available full-text in Academic Search Premier. I was able to
find the article, but when I clicked the PDF link I got an error
"Sorry, we are unable to retrieve the document you
requested." [Back].

This was the link that failed from Xerxes:

http://xerxes.palni.org/dup/?base=databases&action=proxy&database=PAL01041&url=http%3A%2F%2Fcontent.epnet.com%2FContentServer.asp%3FT%3DP%26P%3DAN%26K%3D%25FIELD13.a%25%26EbscoContent%3DdGJyMNLe80Sep7E4zdnyOLCmr0meprdSsKm4TbaWxWXS%26ContentCustomer%3DdGJyMOLb7nnz7bmF39%252FsU%252Fipt02u%26D%3Daph

And this is the Ebsco link that works for full-text:

http://web.ebscohost.com/ehost/pdfviewer/pdfviewer?vid=5&hid=127&sid=9f22ae75-9c9e-46f8-ad7f-5293b038e571%40sessionmgr114

We checked our proxy settings. At first, EZProxy asked us to add Host
content.epnet.com to our proxy settings, which we did. Then we got
the error page. Any ideas out there, or has anyone else dealt with
this. And, to complicate things worse, this is happening for both
Trine and DePauw in our Xerxes instance, but Univ of Indy seems to
login fine.

I am getting reports of the same problem. Does anyone have a fix?

I do wonder if the problem is somehow related to Xerxes because if I
enter the citation information into SFX, I am able to get to the PDF
version of the article. HTML Full Text from EBSCO is working as
expected.

Dave,

We are running 1.8.1 and did some updates recently. Since the
thread
that you mention was from April, we have already installed the file.
Is there something that we should check to confirm that this is
working?

I can only confirm that this metasearching EBSCO PDF links in Xerxes 1.8.x
works AFTER we installed the file that David Walker mentions.

http://xerxes-portal.googlecode.com/svn/branches/1.8.x/lib/Xerxes/metalib/MetalibRecord.php

Here's one way how you can test this:

Do a TITLE metasearch in Xerxes 1.8 where one of the databases is academic
search complete or whatever you have.

Title metasearch on "historians in public", maneuver to the results for
Academic Search. Find a record that points to a "full text in pdf" link to a
record. You will see that it now links. In Xerxes 1.7 and early 1.8 it
failed--404.

This search actually breaks currently in the metalib interface--it's the
external links field in metalib that has a link to content.epnet.com that
always fails. I don't know what David did to re-route the external link
field, but that's what it appears to be doing to me. Ex Libris still needs to
fix this in their metalib interface.

Thanks, Sue. It looks as if there may have been a little difference
in versions of the file. We did do a new install and everything is
now working.
