1. I have downloaded the companion app to my Downloads folder on my Macbook. I have both these files in the folder:

net.downloadhelper.coapp-1.6.3.dmg
net.downloadhelper.coapp-1.6.3.pkg

2. I then opened the Terminal app in the Utilities folder, and I went to the Downloads folder and entered the following command:

sudo net.downloadhelper.coapp-1.6.3/bin/net.downloadhelper.coapp-mac-64 install --system

3. But it gave me the following error:

sudo: net.downloadhelper.coapp-1.6.3/bin/net.downloadhelper.coapp-mac-64: command not found

Question:

How do I fix this error? Do I need to uncompress the dmg or pkg file before running the sudo command?

Thanks for your help.

Binod.

hi,

is there a reason why you don't want to just double click on the pkg ? Do you need to use the terminal ?

Hi Jerome,

That is what the instructions say to do. It does not say to click on the pkg.

Can you try with a double click to launch it from the Finder ?

I have installed the extension and the companion app. However, when I try to download a video with the extension, I get a message that I need to install the companion app (it is there in the Applications folder). It is incompatible with the M1 MacBook?

Thanks.

No it's not. Could it be a user right problem ?

Same issue here. I moved the companion app to the Apps folder as the instructions indicate. I double clicked to run the app - nothing happened - extension keeps telling me to install the companion app.  Any help would be appreciated,

Macbook M1 runs on an ARM-based processor while the Mac version of the coapp is compiled for Intel processor so it does not just work "as is". You need to use Rosetta 2 which should allow running the coapp on M1. Maybe this topic will help: https://groups.google.com/g/video-downloadhelper-q-and-a/c/_nD6JyhpELo/m/o0K7W7BHCQAJ

I have an older intel based MacBook Pro - will still not run.

Did you follow the instructions from https://www.downloadhelper.net/install-coapp for completing the install of the .dmg package ?

Mac OS dmg installation Drag the dmg to some location
user-wide install:
# <drag location>/net.downloadhelper.coapp-1.6.3/bin/net.downloadhelper.coapp-mac-64 install --user
system-wide install:
# sudo <drag location>/net.downloadhelper.coapp-1.6.3/bin/net.downloadhelper.coapp-mac-64 install --system

Note that for Mac, we recommend installing the .pkg package as it does not require this extra step.

Binod Maliel: you should just download the .pkg package and double-click it to complete the install
