Youtube MKV downloads only audio, no video

hi, I have a permanent lisence

it use to work perfectlly

it's been a few monthes now that the app became useless to me,

either it doesn't work at all (downloads wont make it)

or downloaded files are with error

but mostly,

Youtube MKV downloads on firefox only download as audio, no video

and I basically can't use the app for anything important

would appreciate a solution

Hi Jerome,

I've had identical problems to Shiya (Original poster), but I didn't find my answer on the link you shared.

For me, VDH works perfectly on Youtube except for MKV files, which arrive as audio-only. Attempting to convert the local file into a variety of others formats (e.g. re-encoded h264/aac, mov, avi, ) simply produces a new file with 0 bytes.

See this video as an example, which only offers one available download option (combined video & audio), with no separate video & audio streams apparent:

I use VLC as my default media player. I'm running Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, Firefox 84.0.2 (64-bit), VDH 7.4.0, VdhCoApp 1.6.0.

Any ideas?

Youtube proposed streams are a very unpredictable. First I didn't manage to get the video, then I used another Firefox profile with no Youtube account connected, I reloaded the page and got a 640x360 MKV version playing fine, audio+sound.

I followed your advice and also succeeded in downloading the 640x360 version - thanks!

In case this helps you (or anyone else having the same issue):

When I tried to download the file from my original profile (& signed in to google), only one download option appeared - 854x480. When I reloaded that page from a new profile (not signed in to Google), I saw both the 854x480 version and the 640x360 one. The 854x480 one failed to aggregate upon download (I didn't even get audio-only, as I got before), but as mentioned above, the lower-res version worked without trouble. Curiously, the lower-res version is almost exactly double the filesize as the higher-res one...

you must let the video load fully before downloading

also, download and convert to re-encoded mp4

these 2 together, and videos download without any issue.
