I am optimistically posting this in this group to encourage somebody on the inside,
probably Paul, to make an announcement. These guys have historically popped out new
releases & only if you are sharp-eyed do you realize something new is available. Not
always, but often enough. I really wish you guys would learn to make announcements as a
corporate policy in all cases.

So what is new & noteworthy in CoApp 2.0.3?

Nothing :) Like I explained before we are not making release announcement while we are in the beta cycle as the changes are very specific to some users, and not ready to be announced as "ready". We are still working with these users see if that version solved their issues. If you are curious, we are investigating a Flatpak issue, and experimenting with potential Linux 32bits builds, and changed our build system to properly support Windows 7.

This will change. Once we have stabilized Addon v8.1, user will be prompted to update the coapp from within the extension, and proper changes logs will be posted.

Damn Paul- Make me your "Bitch". I was searching around for that new coapp. I am always up for new challenges; although from further reading of your convo with Willy sounds like nothing I can appreciate as I do Firefox. However I did experience  with the latest Alpha upgrade both of my computers (of 2) did the complete upgrade and one of them lost my license. I highly recommend that every installer of VDH at least store their license on multiple computers and/or on an external storage device also. Just create a text file with the license #.  It saved me from wasting everyone's time and mine to retrieve the license and get fully functional again.. I got everything back in working order quickly. There also was a problem with downloading on Youtube but I haphazardly fixed it. I have no clue as to what I did or did not do.l

Click this:

Look for "various pieces" within the text of that web page. That will give you a link to
click. Click it, read what you find, & smack yourself in the forehead. Once you find
the page that has all the CoApps, remember to click the link that says:

One of the problems that is most decidedly NOT fixed in CoApp 2.0.3 is the speed of
downloading from YouTube. I know it's a feature that is on the agenda for some future
release. Still, I downloaded a video as part of a discussion with a fellow user earlier
this evening. It was a half hour long clip. VDH took something between 2 & 1/2 and 3
hours to download it. I bothered to let it run because I wanted to show the other user
that VDH would download it no problem. But I have gotten in the habit lately of avoiding
VDH for YouTube downloads. I use the technique I explain in depth in the thread on here
with the title, "How to download from YouTube." In the case of the half hour video that
took 2.5+ hours to download, my alternative technique took seconds. I was getting
something on the order of 10 million bytes per second downloading via Firefox's own Save
Video As function, while VDH was pooping along at something under 50,000 bytes per
second. I must say that the correction for speeding up VDH downloads from YouTube cannot
arrive soon enough.

I failed to mention that the lost license and Youtube failure happened on a Lenovo T16 With W11. The successful reinstall with license happened on a Dell Inspiron 530 with W10

I could not find "various pieces".

It might be worth pointing out that there are several choices for Windows versions of the
CoApp now that did not used to be available.

vdhcoapp-2.0.3-win7-i686-installer.exe is the 32-bit CoApp compatible with Windows 7 but
functional in all releases of Windows from 7 & up.

vdhcoapp-2.0.3-win7-x86_64-installer.exe is the 64-bit CoApp compatible with Windows 7
but functional in all releases of Windows from 7 & up.

vdhcoapp-2.0.3-windows-i686-installer.exe is the 32-bit CoApp that won't work on Windows
7 but does work on all releases of Windows newer than 7.

vdhcoapp-2.0.3-windows-x86_64-installer.exe is the 64-bit CoApp that won't work on
Windows 7 but does work on all releases of Windows newer than 7.

Note very carefully the presence of the string -win7- in 2 of those & the presence
instead of the string -windows- in the other 2. Be sure you pick the one appropriate for
your system.

I believe there are some minor differences between the W7 & non-W7 versions due to
certain things that W7 simply does not support. I'm not sure what they are but I can say
that the W7 64-bit version works fine on my W7 desktop system.

Unsuspecting users have been caught out by a rather stupid design choice made by Google.
The way thread pages are displayed here is controlled by a symbol that appears in the
upper right part of every discussion page of Google Groups, the page I cite above being
but one among the thousands of examples. Actually, some shorter pages don't have it.
But almost all pages do. The symbol looks like an upside down V above a V. Or it looks
like a V above an upside down V. Hover your mouse over that to make a tooltip appear.
Then click the symbol. Then keep hovering there to see how the tooltip changes. Click
the symbol a few times to get an idea of what it does. You want that symbol to look like
a V above an upside down V. If it's the other way, click the symbol. Once it looks like
a V above an upside down V, then you'll be able to read the thread. Why that thing even
exists is beyond me. I point all this out because every so often, somebody doesn't know
about this & it makes my advice here seem baffling. It's not baffling. Google Groups is
baffling. This is how to make it all make sense. You can see images of what I'm talking
about by clicking this link:

https://groups.google.com/g/video-downloadhelper-q-and-a/c/MyzAabwDe34

You have to scroll that thread down a bit to find the images. Of course first, you have
to expand the thread as I've described above. This is a bit of a chicken & egg problem.
You have to see the images to understand what to do, but you can't see the images until
you do what is shown in the images. This is not easy to explain.

Can you tell me if this page is more "understandable" than the github page: https://www.downloadhelper.net/install-coapp-v2

It's pretty good. The problem is that the link to that page doesn't exist anywhere. You
need to put it among the all the links in the "various pieces" stuff at the top of the
home page of the Google Group. You also need to put it somewhere on downloadhelper.net.
The page is there but there are no links on the web site to that page. The web site
points you off to pages where you can find links to install the extension, but it's a
wild goose chase to find pages discussing the CoApp. People have to use the links on the
home page of the Google Group or they have to simply do web searches to find it. (And
that's only the tip of the iceberg of what needs to be fixed on downloadhelper.net.)

The "More details" link towards the bottom of the page takes you to the README.md page on
Github. The README.md page needs a little tightening up. You need to clearly mark when
a section is referring to Linux issues & when it is referring to other platforms. For
example, if I am not mistaken (I know nothing about Linux beyond its name), all that talk
about Flatpak & Snap is for Linux only. That is not clearly stated. In addition, the
examples of invoking vdhcoapp.exe appear to be Linuxy. In fact, most of the page appears
to be directed towards Linux users & that is not particularly clear. But under Windows,
you can also execute the CoApp at the command line. It doesn't do anything & you have to
Ctrl+c out of it, something you should explain there. But vdhcoapp --help and vdhcoapp
--version could be very handy commands for a Windows user to know about. You should
document those. It is also necessary to tell Windows users that they have to cd to the
right directory. By that I mean you have to name it explicitly in whatever documentation
you put in the README.md.

Also, Paul, please get in the habit of deleting all quoted material from your posts
before you post. I don't know if you're coming on the web site & clicking Reply all, or
using the GMail interface, or some other technique. But your posts contain wholesale
quoting of previous posts. This is wasteful & rather annoying. Please click the 3 dots
to expand the stealth quoted garbage & delete it before you even compose your posts.

Also, README.md is simply weird. You should rename it to "More Details.Txt" or something
a bit more normal like that. An extension of .md is just baffling. It's text so it
should be .txt.

Hi Willy,
README.md is the standard file name in repositories.
This is not only text, this is markdown, that's why the extension is ".md"

This seems as appropriate a place as any to report this. There was a problem a while
back in which if you were looking at the status of a download on the blue dot menu, then
looked at that item's Hit Details, the status menu lost some of the information that it
had been displaying. This appears to now be the case with the new Side Downloads. Some
of the information displayed when you first get on the status menu disappears after you
look at its Hit Details. I imagine the correction will look a lot like whatever you did
in the earlier case.

Which info are missing? Do you mind taking a screenshot of before/after?

Sure. This was with a Side Download. Image #01 is the status menu when I first looked
at it. Then I displayed the Hit Details on it & the status menu changed as you can see
in image #02. The speed of download is gone.

Just for yucks, I decided to kill this download before it was complete by clicking the x
in the black circle you can see in the 2 images. The resulting file, which had reached
29M, is unplayable. I've attached the ffprobe report on the file.
