It is unfortunate that the automatic update to VDH occurred in the middle of your
download. You should go into the Firefox settings for Add-ons & turn off automatic
updates for VDH. You can update VDH whenever you like, on a schedule that is convenient
for you, by using the link on the home page of this forum. That link & a number of
others are at the top of the page in the area your eyes usually skip over. Don't skip
over it. Read it. There's bold characters there to catch your attention. Let them
catch your attention.

While you are reading that, notice there the description of what constitutes a proper
problem report. You have not provided that. We need release numbers, not "latest" or
"up to date." We also need specific URLs, not just the name of a web site. The error
message you posted is actually not particularly useful in diagnosing your problem. The
URL in it is not usable by anybody, plus it's just not enough information. The URL of
the web page where that video is hosted is useful.

When VDH does not successfully complete a download, which is what happened to you, there
is nothing else to do but start the download over from the beginning. But in your case,
it wasn't simply a failure to download. VDH got updated. I would suggest you close all
your Firefox windows, then come back to your web page & try the download again.

Meanwhile, there is an extra step that you must perform. I talk about it in this thread
that I updated earlier today:

https://groups.google.com/g/video-downloadhelper-q-and-a/c/MZOSvO7h_vo

Follow the advice I posted there. That may or may not improve things for you, but it
can't hurt to try it.

Thank you for your help, and sorry to have not post a good message.
I disable the update oh VDH in Firefox.

I did what you say, but it didn't work.

Otherwise, my information is:
My Firefox is 115.0.3 The website is : https://voirdrama.org/drama/its-okay-thats-love/its-okay-thats-love-02-vostfr/ I'm on Mac OS 10.14 Moyave.

Is it possible to reinstall an older version ?
I tried but the coapp, after launch, say I had to update.

Thank you for the URL. I ran my test on Windows 11 Pro 64-bit, Firefox 121.0.1 64-bit,
VDH 8.1.3.0a1 beta (supposed to be the same as the general availability version), CoApp
2.0.11. You can see what I did in the attached images.

Instead of trying to go backwards, you should try to go forwards. Make things work with
the current software. As I've shown you here, the new software has no problem getting
your video.

You say you got a prompt to update the CoApp. You should update the CoApp. You'll find
a link for that on the home page of this forum, as I already told you. Update the CoApp.
You did not receive an error message. You received a directive that you need to follow.
Get the new CoApp & install it. You haven't mentioned which version of the CoApp you
have. I am guessing you are still using version 1.6.3. Stop using that. It doesn't
work with the new version of VDH. Get the new CoApp.

One other idea is to do what I posted about earlier today over here, which I already told
you about:

https://groups.google.com/g/video-downloadhelper-q-and-a/c/MZOSvO7h_vo

Did you do that? Do that after you install the new CoApp.

Il y a 2 choses qu'il te faut faire:
1. Mets à jour le CoApp, et après ça . . .
2. Suis mes conseils dans l'autre fil.

Est-ce que tu peux faire ces 2 choses?

Re,
Thank you for the time you take for me.
What your photos show is what I also had until now.
VDH has always worked well for me, I am very happy with it.
Except that today, since the update, it no longer works. I tested what you suggested (because I had read your other posts), but it didn't change anything. I even tried reinstalling the app and coapp, but nothing.

I'm not on Windows. I'm on Mac.
VDH Version 8.1.3.0a1 (beta)
Coapp : VdhCoApp 2.0.10
Firefox
115.0.3 (64 bits)
Mac OS 10.14.3 Mojave

That's sad. I was hoping the difference between Windows & Mac would not matter. I have
no experience with Mac.so I must leave this discussion for someone with the right
experience to help you.

I am having the same experience, except that I use Linux Mint.  I attempted to download a video and the computer automatically updated VDH and then told me I must also update the companion app.  After doing so, I attempted to install it only to be told that this version is already installed (not true, or at least not by me, not consciously).  Then I tried to download the video again, only to be told once again that I must update the companion app.  VDH is now useless to me.  Clearly, this problem is not limited to a single type of computer or operating system.

Is your Mac using intel ? It says Macos 10.15 and above is needed. There is older versions of the extension available.
Does it help ?

Steve has brought up a issue on Linux Mint. I have Linux Mint on a bootable usb stick and installed companion app 2.0.10
Checking the companion app returned:

Companion app not installed
Checking companion app returned: No such native application net.downloadhelper.coapp

I got it working after following what it said on the github page by running  /opt/vdhcoapp/vdhcoapp install
in the terminal. It now says :

Companion App installed
Found companion app: VdhCoApp 2.0.10
Companion app binary: /opt/vdhcoapp/vdhcoapp

Wild Willy, I figured out from a link below how to go to a previous version and it is working for me, even in older Mac OSes. I can't figure out how to disable the auto update. Can you give a more specific link? Thank you so much!

Wild Willy - Never mind. I think I found it. It disables ALL auto updates for ALL add-ons. I think I may be back in business. Thanks for all the helpful posts you have throughout.

You do Ctrl+Shift+a to get into the part of Firefox settings for add-ons. All your
add-ons are listed there. Beside each one there's a slider for enabling & disabling each
one individually. Beside that for each one there's 3 dots. Click that. That opens a
little menu. Click Manage. I think you'll be able to take it from there. Notice that
this is all in the browser. VDH does not automatically update on the initiative of the
VDH folks. VDH -- any add-on -- updates on YOUR initiative based on what you set in this
dialog. So if anything updates automatically, it's because you told Firefox -- you did
not tell the add-on, you told the browser -- to do it. Maybe it is a default setting to
update automatically. A default setting in the browser, not the add-on. Everybody
should be clear on this. Automatic updating is a feature of the browser, not of add-ons,
VDH being just one example. So blaming VDH for this situation is simply not valid.
Automatic updating is a user choice in the browser, not the add-on.

Alternatively, Add-ons and Themes is an entry on the Firefox Tools men.

mjs has solved the problem for me.  While I could download the companion app easily, it would not install properly until I used the terminal command he recommended.  It took mere seconds even though I'm not very familiar with the terminal and now everything works flawlessly!  Thanks!!!
