Hi,

I am excited to say we are going to start using the Sign-In Kiosk.
  1. Any suggestions on what hardware to use?  What type, tablet vs. laptop, minimum screen size...
  2. Any words of wisdom from current users that can make our transition easier?
Thanks.  Any help is always appreciated!

Hello
We use an iPad for our kiosk works great. Displays to go web site has stands that lock iPad securely and and bolt to floor if needed.

We leave ours in the ministry room and have iPad settings set to not go to sleep. Also, have MSP app set to allow sign in 45 mins before Mass begins.

Kerry,

We use Acer tablets. They are inexpensive and do a great job. If money is no object, the sky's the limit!

Acer Tablets! So is it an app or just the web view of MSP?

Thank you!

Hello-
We "repurposed" an old laptop to run in a kiosk mode only (Porteus - Linux).  It boots up in the MSP Kiosk mode so nothing can be modified and no other programs can be run on the laptop.  It has been working now, flawlessly, for almost two years.  We have a wired connection to the internet so that helps as well.

The Kiosk is one of my favorite MSP features!  It is so useful for ensuring there are no "no-shows", but when there are, there is time to draft a replacement from among those present.  We set our kiosks to accept sign-ins 1 hours before each Mass and 15 minutes after it has begun.

Attached is a photo of ours.  The stand is by a company called "Stand It".  We have 2 of these, each holding a standard iPad.  One is in our narthex and the other is in the front of church near the side entrance.  We store them in the parish office during the week, so they are only in position for weekday and holy day Masses.

We post the EMHC position map on the wall above these, so that each of the Host and Cup ministers know exactly where to go (as indicated by the number after their name on our schedule).

I forgot to mention:  be sure to go into the Settings and disable any app that you don't want messed with when the kiosks are unsupervised (camera, FaceTime, iTunes, etc.).  Not long after we started using ours, we had some little darlings who started playing with them.  One day when I went to put the kiosks away after the last Sunday Mass, I saw that a kid managed to change the desktop image I had set (of the MSP logo) to a close-up photo of himself!

Thanks so much to everyone for your input.
Tom, this may seem like a silly question, but how did you get the MSP logo to fill up your whole screen?
Do you have the ipad dedicated to just MSP and no one can access anything else?  How do I do that or do I need to talk to our IT guy here?

I simply used the Safari browser on the iPad to download the MSP logo, saved it to "Photos" on the iPad, and then set it as the wallpaper on the iPad:

Settings -> Wallpaper -> Choose a New Wallpaper -> click on the logo

Tom,

How did you incorporate numbers after your EM's names in the kiosk so they know where to go?

Thank you in advance,

I set up sub-divisions in the ministry, where I indicate both both the position and whether the person is a bread or cup minister.
