Please check out the following URL and forward to the rest of members of the ACM chapter. It is an invitation for a webinar lecture by past ACM president Alain Chesnais the lecture will provide an introduction to 3D graphics on the web with WebGL. This might be quite valuable for UoPeople students who will soon be taking our CS4406 Computer Graphics course as the course uses WebGL for development projects.
The URL to register for the event is as follows: http://event.on24.com/eventRegistration/EventLobbyServlet?target=lobby.jsp&eventid=699649&sessionid=1&key=7C4C3E202605E0400F5839C67C499067&eventuserid=88486769.
I will be keeping a look out for similar events that our chapter can take advantage of that will help us to link our learning with the discipline and practice of computer science. Please feel free as a student group to identify topics or events of interest and engage with them yourselves as a group.
I will also identify and forward, for your consideration, events and topics as I find them at a rate of one every quarter. For those students who can attend this event I would encourage that you do so and then begin a conversation on facebook to share what you have learned with the rest of your group.
I also wanted to get your feedback on whether you are a group might be interested in some of the programming and design competitions that are available. Many of you are taking courses such as data structures and analysis of algorithms and these are areas that can be useful when entering such competitions. Please let me know and please encourage your group to attend the webinar as I think it will be quite valuable to them.
WebGL has been introduced in HTML5 as an implementation of OpenGL ES 2.0 in JavaScript. It extends the 2D canvas primitive to incorporate real-time 3D support without requiring any plugins. In this webinar we will look at the history of WebGL, introduce the viewer to the core concepts of the API, and present several demonstrations to illustrate what you can do with it. We will also address issues related to current deployments and limitations.
