Please check out the following URL and forward to the rest of members of the ACM chapter.  It is an invitation for a webinar lecture by past ACM president Alain Chesnais  the lecture will provide an introduction to 3D graphics on the web with WebGL.     This might be quite valuable for UoPeople students who will soon be taking our CS4406 Computer Graphics course as the course uses WebGL for development projects.

The URL to register for the event is as follows:  http://event.on24.com/eventRegistration/EventLobbyServlet?target=lobby.jsp&eventid=699649&sessionid=1&key=7C4C3E202605E0400F5839C67C499067&eventuserid=88486769.

I will be keeping a look out for similar events that our chapter can take advantage of that will help us to link our learning with the discipline and practice of computer science.   Please feel free as a student group to identify topics or events of interest and engage with them yourselves as a group.

I will also identify and forward, for your consideration, events and topics as I find them at a rate of one every quarter.   For those students who can attend this event I would encourage that you do so and then begin a conversation on facebook to share what you have learned with the rest of your group.

I also wanted to get your feedback on whether you are a group might be interested in some of the programming and design competitions that are available.   Many of you are taking courses such as data structures and analysis of algorithms and these are areas that can be useful when entering such competitions.  Please let me know and please encourage your group to attend the webinar as I think it will be quite valuable to them.

What do you guys think?

By the way, the event is all about WebGL.

Here's the introduction:

WebGL has been introduced in HTML5 as an implementation of OpenGL ES 2.0 in JavaScript. It extends the 2D canvas primitive to incorporate real-time 3D support without requiring any plugins. In this webinar we will look at the history of WebGL, introduce the viewer to the core concepts of the API, and present several demonstrations to illustrate what you can do with it. We will also address issues related to current deployments and limitations.

The event is on: Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 12 noon ET/11 am CT/10 am MT/9 am PT/4 pm GMT.

I think it's a good one for us.

Regarding the matter of joining programming and design competitions, I think it'll be a great one for all of us. Question is, would it be possible for us to be able to join such an event? I mean, given time zones and all that.

I'm all for it, of course.

Hi all,

This is a great idea and very interesting but seems the webinar is
limitted to ACM membership from what I visited at the link provided.
The lectures are on Tuesday and Thursday which is quite flexible but
seems non ACM members may not have the opportunbity to participate.

I suggest Dr. Taipala collects the audio or video and post for us
here in our forum since not all of us are members yet. I would like to
follow the lectures even if its not live, thanks.

Hi peer,

Sorry for addressing you as "peer" since you didn't sign your post, so I don't know what to call you. Anyway, that's not very important and what I consider important is your willingness to join and contribute for the chapter to progress.

Welcome to the UoPeople ACM Student Chapter (UASC) and thank you again for  proposing to take up a role by filling one of the posts.

First, we would ask you  to visit the membership list and add your name. There is an updated list on the membership page of the UASC website under construction but just use this one here below.
Please, kindly tell us your field of interest or exactly what skills you have, so we know what post you can occupy.

Also, use this link to visit a log record to all the threads that have been discussed right from the beginging.
