Parsimony Informative characters

Hello everyone,

How can I get “number of Parsimony informative characters” and “number of variable characters” out of TNT?  The reviewers keep asking for these statistics.

Hi Heidi,

The command 'xinact' deactivates (and give you a report) all uninformative characters of the matrix. With a couple of simple operations you can get what the reviewers want.

Your total number of characters  -  number of uninformative = number of parsimony informative chars.

I suppose that the length of the optimal tree with all the characters active  -  length with uninformative ones deactivated = number of "variable characters" (if all your characters are unordered or binaries).
