Hello TIDES Community,

There are several exciting updates to share from the TIDES Project

TIDES implementations moving forward

A growing number of transit agencies continue to make progress implementing TIDES in their transit data efforts. One major project at WMATA in Washington DC, funded through a USDOT SMART grant, is using TIDES to improve their internal data pipelines and analytics. Project staff will be sharing insights and resources from that work early next year. Are you using TIDES in your work? Let us know at ti...@mobilitydata.org.

TIDES Contributors Group & TIDES Implementers Group ongoing

Two TIDES community groups are meeting monthly. The TIDES Contributors Group continues to improve and expand the TIDES data specification. And members of the TIDES Implementers Group share experiences implementing TIDES. They are developing documentation and creating use cases that link use of TIDES to real world challenges like NTD reporting, on-time performance management, delay analysis, and ridership analysis. If you’re interested in joining either group (or both!), fill out our brief TIDES Community Interest Form.

TIDES Version 2.0 in development

Based on input from the WMATA project and the TIDES Contributors group, work is underway on TIDES Version 2.0 that will address existing ambiguities in the spec and extend the functionality of TIDES. Stay tuned for more information and the opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed changes, or head to the TIDES repo on GitHub today to review several recent Issues and Pull Requests related to this work.

TRB lectern session will include TIDES

If you will be at the 2026 TRB Annual Meeting next month, TIDES will be one of several data standards covered in a lectern session sponsored by the TRB Standing Technical Committee on Transit Data and Emerging Technologies titled When Data Standards Meet the Real World. The session is Monday, January 12 at 10:30 AM.

Annual TIDES Update Meeting, January 14 at 12:30 ET

Whether you will be at TRB or not, please plan to join us for the annual TIDES Update Meeting on Wednesday, January 14 from 12:30 to 1:30 Eastern Time. The meeting will be held in person during TRB in Washington DC at the Marriott Marquis in Salon 14 and will be streamed via Google Meet. Use this link to add the meeting to your calendar.

TIDES at TransportationCamp DC

If you are attending TransportationCamp DC on Saturday, January 10, we are planning a session on TIDES. Come join us!

The Transit Integrated Data Exchange Specification (TIDES) is an open data specification for archived transit operations data. If you would like to learn more about TIDES, find us online at tides-transit.org or email us ti...@mobilitydata.org.

(Note: This email is being sent to members of the TIDES Project Google Group as well as participants in the TIDES Contributors Group and TIDES Implementers Group.)

Hope to see many of you in January!
