Well, they're asking for it, let's let them know what we think about MDOT's last decade of making things so much more dangerous for these groups of Michiganders, esp. wherever they've removed straight-thru access and replaced it with their J-turns:

I'm trying to come up with a good response.  Something like:

"I vote for truly protecting those not in motor vehicles with EVERY MDOT project which we pay for with our tax dollars.  Removing straight-through access options where country roads meet busy trunk lines, forcing pedestrians and horse-powered buggy drivers as well as bicyclists to merge with highspeed motor vehicle traffic, travel 500-600 ft. and then again merge with highspeed traffic to then travel another 500-600 ft. back to their desired path is NOT SAFE and definitely NOT an example of complete streets!  This dangerous design has been constructed at 16 intersections along US-127 north of St. Johns over the past decade all while Lansing-area bike safety advocates have been doing everything we can to stop it.  This is truly inexcusable and diametrically opposed to the notion of "protecting those not in motor vehicles".

Anyone else have some suggested comments that will drive the point home to our allies in MIOHSP?  This is the office paid specifically to "(Committed to) save lives and reduce injuries on Michigan roads through leadership, innovation, facilitation, and program support. www.michigan.gov/ohsp

Perhaps it would be helpful to point out that MDOT has successfully accommodated most NMT folks when crossing M-99 at Columbia Rd.  The model has been developed and shown to work.  It needs to be seen as the first option when faced with a J-Turn and no pedestrian crossing signal.
