Is there any way to control Samsung's always-on display?  It has a qstile toggle which makes me think there is a control API for it, but as far as I can tell, nothing that I can trigger through Tasker. Any thoughts?

Any plugin able to modifiy global system setting "aod_mode" to "1" or "0" will work

I'm currently using Secure Setting for this:

but there are alternatives.

Thanks for the pointer. I installed the plugin but never could get to the aod api.

The above from Gilles works fine for me, but what I would really like to do is change the clock style depending on time of day. I've used Winmerge to check what gets changed when you change the clock style, and it appears that the only thing that changes is 'aod_settings_dump', which will have a value like '[aod_clock_style=AOD_DIGITAL_CLOCK_03],[aod_content_type=CONTENT_TYPE_CLOCK]'. However, changing values there seems to make no difference (although they appear to stick).

Any ideas anyone?

I would try to toggle "aod_mode" off then on just after updating "aod_content_type". No guaranty to work but worth the shot.

Yeah, I've tried that I'm afraid. No dice...

I use a couple of Java Functions to turn on/off AOD, which I found somewhere on the net:

First (Tasker) Java Function (gets a handle):

Return {ContentResolver}: cr
Class or Object: CONTEXT

Function: getContentReceiver {ContentResolver} ()

Second Java Function (to turn on/off AOD):

Return {boolean}:
Class Or Object: android.provider.settings$System
function: putint {boolean} (ContentResolver, String, int)
Param: cr
Param (String): aod_mode
Param (int): 1

1 turns on, 0 turns off. Sorry that I do not have the original link to this, perhaps a Google search can find it (which will have more details).

Here is the site I found that had the code tutorial on how to turn on/off AOD. Root is not required.

As I mentioned above, I know how to turn AOD on and off (by Secure Settings and Javascript). What I'm hoping to achieve is to change the clock style using Tasker. Any ideas?

What was the trick? I'm looking into having a certain aod style when my phone is on the charger, then a different aod style when off the charger.

Style changes do not seem possible outside of the Samsung interface (I suppose Autoinput could probably navigate the menus). The changes appear to display in secure settings (global if I recall) but changing the settings have no effect. This is something I very much want as well. Edge clock at night and one of the traditional displays during the day. Tried for weeks to figure it all out and finally gave up.
