When Tasker plays sounds when I am connected via Bluetooth in my car it
plays them through the car stereo only if I have the BT option selected
on the stereo, so if I am listening to FM radio, I don't hear them. This
kind of makes sense since it is playing them through the media stream.
Well, my stereo is smart enough to interrupt the FM radio when a call
comes in, mute the radio and route the call through the car speakers and
mic. Then, after the call completes, the music comes back on. So I got
to thinking that I could use the call stream to make it do the same for
spoken notifications when I was listening to FM radio. But it doesn't
work. None of the streams (I tried them all) allow me to replicate this
behavior. Is there something I am missing?

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I am having difficulty
understanding what you mean by "and then routed through the call
> stream for my car's radio to mute current audio." When I add
AutoVoice Ctrl BT, the only option is Headset Sound Redirect. On the
other hand, If I choose the Call stream for the spoken text, I still
don't get the results I expect. Can you please clarify?

Yep, and sorry for the delay.

You enable Headset Sound Redirect in the AutoVoice Ctrl BT part, then when you add the "Say" command, in its options you have it go through the Call stream.

Ok, we have made a bit of progress. I was able to get FM radio
interrupted and a text to be read. I know this because the display on
the head unit switched to "call in progress." I'm not sure that it read
it though the car speakers or not since the volume was very low, and
even though I had an end call action in there, the call was not ended. I
had to end it through the steering wheel control. However, any
subsequent test failed and it would no longer interrupt FM. It would
only read the text through the phone earpiece. Strange. Any ideas?

Success! Thanks very much you you and HeyTCass.

It now does exactly what I want: interrupts FM, XM or Bluetooth
connections, reads the text, disconnects and returns control to the
original station. I had to add a step to turn up the Bluetooth Voice
Volume all the way but now it is perfect. The only thing left is to test
how this interacts with current or incoming voice calls.

Hi so I am just trying to do this exact thing and want to confirm I will use the tasker to setup the task > settings and then autovoice to setup the phone, plugin stuff correct.

Sorry I have been looking at how to do this but am not familiar with the tasker etc.

Hi all,

This works great! It defines the task that opens the Bluetooth channel. And closes it. Does anyone know how to programme Tasker to trigger this task whenever a navigation app like Google Maps or Waze gets granted the audio focus?

I was having the same issue until I found AutoVoice on the Play Store. Its intention is more for receiving voice prompts, but if you look at the list of features at the bottom of the description, item two is your answer.

So I had a task that was set up as:
Profile: Receive text message
Plugin>AutoVoice Control Bluetooth
In the options I turned it to on, and then routed through the call stream for my car's radio to mute current audio
Wait 1 second (To give my car stereo time to route the call audio)
Read text message
End call (Otherwise it left the audio stream active and I'd have to manually end it)

Not sure I understand the "End Call" action: I guess that if you receive an SMS during a voice call, it will be disconnected.
Does anyone have an idea for the best way to do this without side effects?

So this WAS working great in my car, but stopped working a couple of months ago - wondering if it's an AutoVoice update that might have affected it and if anyone else has seen the issue.  Here's my set up:

Task > Wait 2 seconds
Plugin > AutoVoice Ctrl BT > Enable
Task > Wait 2.5 seconds
Misc > Say > %SMSRN send the following text %SMSRB
Task > Wait > 1 second
Phone > End Call
Plugin > AutoVoice Ctrl BT > Disable

When I play the task it goes through the steps with no problem, but does not take over my sound system any longer.  It's as if the Ctrl BT option just stopped working.  Anyone else have this issue or have any suggestions on how to fix it?

I'm new to Tasker, and either I don't fully understand the settings or the app has updated since your post.
I'm having a hard time with the following line:
> Misc > Say > %SMSRN send the following text %SMSRB
Any chance you could guide me how to set it up, or even send me a profile?
Many thanks

Greg,

Your task should look pretty much like this.

%SMSRN and %SMSRB are system variables that get defined when you get a txt message.

I seem to be having issues with this as well.
I have downloaded AutoVoice, put the enable as the first event and disable as the last event, but cannot get it to work.
Did AutoVoice have an update that removes this functionality?
