Hi all,
I have tried installing the latest version of Tarquin on a mac and the tarquingui appears to work fine. When I run the command line with --output_pdf no pdf appears in the target directory. -output_fit and output_txt etc all work.

When I run tarquin I get the following error come up within the terminal:

"gnuplot.txt", line 1: unknown or ambiguous terminal type; type just 'set terminal' for a list"

I have installed gnuplot using brew. When I look in gnupolot.txt the terminal appears to be set to "pdfcairo". When I run gnuplot and type "set terminal" pdfcairo is not listed.

Does anyone know how to fix this so that I can ouptut pdf's from the tarquin command line?

Many thanks
Jonathan

Just to add my name as some one who experiences the same problem.  PDF's would be nice when running Tarquin from the command line as it allows a visual check of spectral quality.  Any tips welcome.

Hi Jonathan, Paul,

The issue is that your version of gnuplot was not built with the
option to export pdf plots via the cairo library. I rebuilt gnuplot
from scratch (rather than using macports or something similar) making
sure the pdfcairo terminal was enabled. This is currently the only
workaround.

Another way would be to add a command line option to use an output
other than pdfcairo. If you start gnuplot at the command line and type
"set t" are there any other pdf output options?

Thanks

Martin

Thanks Martin,

I managed to find a work around I think. First I had to uninstall gnuplot using  "brew uninstall gnuplot"

Then I had to download and install xquartz from http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/

I then re-installed gnuplot with the cairo option: "brew install gnuplot --cairo"

After this it appears that pdfcairo is a listed terminal in gnuplot and so the pdf is created from the tarquin command line. The only problem is the text is really small! Not sure if there is an easy solution to this but for now it doesn't bother me too much.

Thanks again for your help and I hope this works for you too Paul.

Good find Jonathan, glad you got that working.

For some reason gnuplot changed their font size definitions so that
they are smaller for newer versions. You can scale them up to a more
readable size with the added c/l option:

--gnuplot_cex 2
