Americans stop being intimidated by the right

As readers of my news service know, I frequently run stories
from http://www.wsws.org – the World Socialist Website. WSWS is an
offshoot of the Fourth Internationale Movement, which puts them in the
leftist camp by European standards, and unthinkably far left by
American standards. But they also happen to be a superb source of
news, especially on matters such as the Afghanistan incursion and
European reaction to the American junta. Far better than any domestic
source, with the possible exception of Media Whores Online.
One of the swaggering, guying bullies of the right who, just
five years ago, all but controlled discussion groups on the Internet,
spotted my posting of a WSWS article, and, and, in the usual sneering
and dishonest manner of such, wrote, "There you have it folks--the
World Socialist Web Site is behind the Democrats. Which side are you
on?"
It used to be that his victim would stammer something
defensive, whereupon the right winger would go for the throat, braying
about the 500 million that Stalin killed with his bare hands and the 8
point 11 billion killed by Mao with his teeth, and the seventry
thirteen trillion killed by that socialist Hitler by halitosis, and
wanting to know if Democrats planned to open death camps soon?
This time, however, he didn't get the answers he hoped for.
One wrote, "[I] would gladly count myself as a socialist democrat then
any day of the week. the truth is the truth no matter where it comes
from." Said another, "Count me in for democrat and/or socialist at
this time, due to the fact that if we continue with the present
regime, the freedoms we had will be gone, the planet will be raped,
nobody will have a decent job unless he/she is rich, and education may
go to hell unless you have money." My own response was, "Democratic
socialists are a vast improvement over corporate fascists and
religious nuts any old time!"
That was quite a sight, watching Americans, for the first time
in years, stand up and declare that they were Democratic Socialist and
proud of it. Just a few years back, people were afraid to call
themselves liberal, or even progressive. The bullies of the right had
everyone that cowed.
Of course, the right wingers try to attack the WSWS pieces on
the grounds that it's socialist propaganda, and therefore not to be
trusted. When confronted and asked to provide example of an
inaccuracy in any story of theirs I've posted, not one right winger
has ever responded. Not one.
The fact is, it's just that one word, "Socialist" that scares
them so badly. I would guess most of the ones who complain about the
WSWS never actually read any of it, on the grounds that it might
poison their delicate little brains or something.
But attacking WSWS on the grounds that it's suspect isn't
working out so well. After all, their own favorite sources of news
are the Washington Times and the Wall Street Journal. This occurred
on the very same day that a columnist wrote a flagrantly inaccurate
piece, aggressively attacking a Seattle Times piece on health care for
the elderly and indigent that was expected to compete with a Wall
Street Journal article for the Pulitzer Prize next month. This in
turn came on the heels of the disgracing of moral paragon John Fund,
who was exposed to have been involved in about as sleazy and tawdry a
relationship with a woman and her daughter as you can imagine, and who
eventually wound up with a restraining order after beating up the
daughter. Fund used to regale us for months on end about the disgrace
of America inflicted by Clinton's sexual misadventures. At least
Clinton wasn't sleeping with Monica Lewinsky's mother, too. The Wall
Street Journal is a great paper, but their editorial staff is a tawdry
disgrace.
The Washington Times, caught repeatedly lying about the
Clintons (most recently repeating eleven times in one issue the
discredited story that Kenneth Lay slept in the Lincoln bedroom while
Clinton was president) is owned by a monomaniacal Korean religious
crackpot who arranges mass marriages among total strangers and has
sworn to destroy the free and secular government of America – and
grandly announces that the Times is a means to that end.
This leaves the flag and cross waving patriots a little bit
vulnerable when they cite either source, but since that's where much
of their material comes from, they have little choice.
Another example of how the left is staging a comeback is in
Michael Moore's book, "Stupid White Men." An immensely entertaining
read, the book was slated to be published last September. But then
9/11 happened, and the publisher, Regan Books, a subsidy of Harper
Collins, put the book, which is harshly critical of Putsch and his
junta, on indefinite hold. The weeks stretched into months, and Moore
wanted to know, reasonably enough, when the book would be published.
Harper Collins told Moore they wanted him to rewrite the sections
about the election theft and the parts detailing what a vacuous little
wastrel the Yellow Puddle of Texas is. Moore said "Hell no!" and held
his ground. He started raising a fuss about it, and Harper Collins
folded and ran the book.
It's at the top of the best seller lists, and our local book
store can't keep it in stock. The first day, not only did it sell out
in an hour, but someone even stole the store copy. This, in Siskiyou
County, a part of California that is more like rural Oregon in culture
and mores. Pretty impressive, given that just a few years ago, a
clerk at that same bookstore remarked that she was nervous about
having Al Franken's "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot" because of its
provocative title – a stance that did NOT reflect the philosophy of
the bookstore – and Democrats manning voter registration booths were
often cursed and even spit at. The times, they are a-changing.
During the period ramping up to the impeachment and through
the election, there was a steady stream of right wing "exposés", each
dumber, more vacuous and nastier then the last, usually about the
Clintons, and usually from Regerny Press.
But I take a look at the listing now, and I see Moore at #2,
David Brock at #6 (Brock authored a couple of those right wing hatchet
jobs, being, as he now explains, "Blinded by the Right" – now he
writes exposés of the right wing), with James (Serpenthead) Carville's
new book the fastest increasing in sales, and a new book on Clinton by
Joe Conason due out next week being promoted heavily.
Harper Collins may have been intimidated by the war fever in
the wake of 9/11, but they seem to be pretty much alone, and it was
their timidity that caused Moore's excellent book to become the social
phenomenon that it has.
As I read Michael Moore's book, I felt considerable delight.
Not just because I agreed with nearly all of what Mike had to say, or
because any of it was news to me. I was delighted because for the
first time, a voice from our side was reaching tens of millions of
people, and being sought out. And for a lot of those people, much of
what Mike has to say WILL be news. And it will pull a lot of people
back from the abyss of fascism which is where America now stands.
Thanks, Mike! Who'd a thunk that a mill rat from Flint would
turn our TV nation into a bunch of readers, let alone help the country
discover its true liberal legacy?
And thanks for giving the rest of us hope.

Are you referring to me, here? I certainly wrote the last sentence,
but the part about me controlling discussion groups on the internet
five years ago is a ridiculous fantasy, and what is guying anyway? I
have been posting for a little longer than that, but nobody would
describe me as particularly prolific. I guarantee I have posted far,
far, less articles on usenet politics groups than you have.

Uh, Zepp, are you engaging in Holocaust denial here? Or did you just
decide that it is easier to deny Stalin and Mao's victims if you also
deny Hitler's?

Yes, and I also fail to provide examples of inaccuracy in the posts of
the National Stupid White People's Party (currently headed by Michael
Moore), or the National Assholes Against America (currently headed by
Michael Moore), or the North American Man-Boy Love Association (not
yet headed by Michael Moore).

There is a credibility issue that I admit is relative. I don't mind
if Socialists attack the credibility of posts from the Wall Street
Journal. However, I, as a full-fledged capitalist, reserve the right
to attack the credibility of posts from the WSW (apparently they
haven't caught on yet that Website is one word), and I don't feel a
particular compunction against pointing out the origin of socialist
diatribes.

Okay, anybody want to translate that for me? Is he saying that the
Wall Street Journal comissioned a hit piece on a Seattle Times piece
that was expected to compete with a WSJ piece for the Pulitzer? Is he
presenting any evidence, or is he just saying it was "flagrantly
inaccurate?"

But of course Clinton is not a tawdry disgrace. Look if it shouldn't

They must have been influenced by the New York Times.

Moore's book has sold quite well, but Hugh Hewitt's exposed the gag in
that--he managed to drive the book "After I Believe" from #1,200,000
something to #8 on Amazon.com in two days by haranguing his listeners
to buy it. Moore's publisher would be well advised to keep supplies
of the book tight, because when it stops selling it will fall off a
cliff. I am pleased to see somebody is making a decent profit from
Marxism, just amazed that the rest of you don't see the joke. (In one
of his recent diatribes MM complains about the $26 cover price.
Apparently he has never heard of distributing PDF files over the
internet).

It is selling fast, but it will not sell deep. And you and the fat
man (well, then, you two fat men) will be crying in your beer come
November. Except that Michael will be crying in a penthouse suite and
you will be in some dive bar.

But you really should try reading it first. I mean, I'm spending time
here because you actually read my piece, which puts you miles ahead of
clowns like Bonde, Robinson, Nap and Snorts who attack something they
haven't read, and often make fools of themselves in the process. It
does wonders for your credibility.

That's exactly what I'm saying. The Times openly so accused the WSJ,
and the WSJ has admitted the peice has glaring problems with accuracy
and research. If you want, I can repost the news story for you, or
you can just do a seach here under the words Seattle Times.

Not really. He got some blow jobs from a consenting adult and fibbed
about it to save his marriage. Unless you accept the sad little
smears from the Moonie Times and WSJ editorial page as gospel, Clinton
never raped anyone, never beat anyone up.
The only reason we talk about the sexual aspect is that it's all you
have. The Ray report this weed said there was no evidence of ANY
criminal activity by Clinton or his wife. None.

I haven't heard that the NY Times has been bought by anti-American
cult leaders from Korea.
Moore's book is in its fourteenth printing, has been #1 or #2 at
Amazon for over a week, and Moore dosn't have a radio show. And I see
you've run out of steam and are reverting to Type: Moore isn't a
Marxist. But once you've called him that, you don't have to think of
any reasons to say he's wrong, do you?
And now you've sunk to personal attack.
I knew you wouldn't last long. You never do. That's why you don't
dominate Usenet like your type once did.

I've noticed the same trend on Usenet. The real hard-core loonies
now often post in non-political groups where the pickin' is
easier.
For instance, take a look at what Chris Morton has posted in
other groups this past year.

While I applaud this shift toward reasonableness; I fear it comes
too late. The 2000 Election compromised our Legal and Election
systems in precisely those ways that third-world Dictators use,
in order to take over their own countries' governments.
I am very concerned that we have seen the last fair and
democratic National election in the United States. If that is the
case, then it won't matter how reasonable we become: We will have
lost our Country to the looney minority, anyway.
I post this idea often; and have yet to see anyone come along and
"correct" my assumption, with other ideas. I'll keep posting it
anyway.

bring everyone's attention to how bankrupt your political

Let's make it easy on you, Zepp. Do you think that Stalin had killed,
at a bare minimum, oh, let's say 50,000 citizens of the Soviet Union?

were dismal; Furholzer’s help was gladly accepted. In fact during the
1932 campaign,
Furholzer worked endlessly for the Republican National Committee. He
campaigned tirelessly for Hoover in New York State equating Roosevelt
as the new
Wilson, the man that had destroyed Germany.92 In 1933, Furholzer
returned to Germany.
The Nazis had only been in power for less than a year by 1934, but
already the Nazis were active in placing their agents or pro-Nazis
into positions of power. On
February 22, 1934, the Republican Party merged their Senatorial and
Congressional Campaign Committees into a single organization
independent of the Republican
National Committee.
Senator Daniel Hastings of Delaware and Representative Chester Bolton
announced the merger. Several weeks before the merger the two
committees hired Sidney
Brooks, who for years had headed the research bureau at International
Telephone and Telegraph (ITT). ITT was one of many American
corporations that went to
extraordinary means to continue to trade with the Nazis once war broke
out.
Shortly after Brooks took charge, he made a frantic visit to New York
on March 4 calling on room 830 at the Hotel Edison. The room was
rented to a Mr. William
Goodales of Los Angles. Goodales was in fact William Dudley Pelly. The
meeting concluded after agreement was reached to merge the Order of 76
with the Silver
Shirts. Later Brooks would stop at 17 Battery Place, the address of
the German Consulate General.
Brooks was a member of the Order of 76, a pro-fascist group. A group
which, required on the application form the fingerprints of the member
and certain details of
their life. Brooks’ application revealed that he was the son of the
Nazi agent Colonel Edwin Emerson and that he chose to use his mother’s
maiden name to conceal
the connection to his father.80 Emerson was a major financial backer

Thus as early as 1934 The Republican Party was collaborating with
