Mint probably installed a Flatpack version of Subsurface, can you perhaps try with the install from the PPA and see if that helps, add ppa:subsurface/subsurface to your system and install from there or even try the Appimage and see if that improves things for you.

Hi,
i have some troubles with SS at the moment.
What did i do so far:

I made a backup of ".subsurface" directory on my old Linux Mint system
I did a new installation of Linux Mint on my notebook.
I installed subsurface through Linux Mint GUI (=version 5.0.10)
I restored ".subsurface" in my home-dir again.
I set the credentials for cloud connection.

Unfortunatley SS tells me it can't connect to the cloud.
So I opened the browser and tried it there --> works
Double-checked credentials in SS --> ok
Tried to open SS on my Windows-machine, opening the cloud --> works
Did some retries on Linux machine --> only error message
tried to change the password through SS Preferences --> work
tried the whole thing again (browser and Win-Machine) --> works with new password
SS on Linux Mint still doesn't work.

I also tried to find the log-files to provide more information but unfortunately I was not able to find them?!

Can you pls. provide me some hints where I can find the logfiles and/or why the connection to cloud doesn't work?

thx in advance,
best regards,
Andreas

It's not a new issue, it was reported here https://groups.google.com/g/subsurface-divelog/c/PkvdUHBaNIA/m/sAom5MSwAgAJ and here https://groups.google.com/g/subsurface-divelog/c/MxPxgaMAFGg/m/S2kEKHEWBQAJ, this is a Flatkpak packaging thing though and that's not something officially supported by Subsurface (I don't think).

Also, as a side comment, can you please not use the double-S as a shorthand for Subsurface, it's a bit of a sensitive thing for some people for historical reasons.

Hi,

thx for the very quick response.
You were right, it was a flatpack version.

So i removed SS from the system, added the ppa like you mentioned and re-installed SS again.
That did the trick, connection to cloud works now as it should.

Maybe one more question just out of curiosity: anyways there should be some like log-files somewhere?!
b/c i still can't find those... :-|

thx,
Andreas

The Linux version doesn't store log files by default. It assumes that if you are using Linux, you know how to get log files 🤣

Start Subsurface from the command line and redirect stdout and stderr to a file...

thx to both of you for your input - i really appreciate it.
And I want to apologize for the inappropriate abbreviation I used (didn't think of that part at the moment writing). I deleted my initial post.
I did 1-2 h of research before opening this chat, found plenty of similiar topics but not those two you mentioned regarding the flatpack issue.

For following up the conversation here is my corrected initial post:

Hi,
i have some troubles with Subsurface at the moment.

Unfortunately Subsurface  tells me it can't connect to the cloud.

So I opened the browser and tried it there --> works
Double-checked credentials in Subsurface  --> ok
Tried to open
Subsurface on my Windows-machine, opening the cloud --> works

Did some retries on Linux machine --> only error message
tried to change the password through Subsurface Preferences --> work

tried the whole thing again (browser and Win-Machine) --> works with new password
Subsurface  on Linux Mint still doesn't work.

I also tried to find the log-files to provide more information but unfortunately I was not able to find them?!

Can you pls. provide me some hints where I can find the logfiles and/or why the connection to cloud doesn't work?

Hi guys,

I have the same problem - it just started on Mint 22.3. It was working fine just a day ago...

That's the log messages:

QObject::connect(QQuickWindow, QDeclarativeGeoMap_QML_6): invalid nullptr parameter
INFO: git storage: unable to update remote with current local cache state, error: unpacking the sent packfile failed on the remote
ERROR: Could not update Subsurface cloud storage, try again later

It seems like the remote server is receiving the data, but could not process it.

Any idea what's going on and how to fix it?
Is that some temporary Cloud issue?

Greets,

Alex

One of the backend servers ran out of storage space... should be fixed.

Thank you, sir!
I can confirm - it's working now.
