Last Parks & Rec Hearing:

P&R has been holding a series of these hearings/meetings over the last
3 weeks, and this is the last one – and your last chance to speak up
for more dog parks in the city of St. Paul.

Sorry to say, the number of dog park proponents who attended the first
four hearings has been disappointing. It is absolutely true that if
you would like to see more dog parks in the city, the most effective
contribution you can make right now is to simply show up at this
hearing and say so.

Dave Thune is fond of talking about government by those who "show up."
And that is certainly the case here. "Wanting" more dog parks will not
make it happen. We have to find ways to shoe horn meetings like this
into our too busy schedules.


2 important points you can make to opponents:

1) These are not “dog” parks; rather, they are parks for “people”
with dogs.

2) If you are among the 80-90% of dog owners in the city who are
willing to pay a reasonable permit fee that would be earmarked for
more dog parks, please say so.


And BTW, you DO NOT have to be a Highland resident to attend and make
sure your voice is heard.

Oh! I had been planning to go to this meeting, but I just realized it conflicts with my niece's graduation at Central High. Jan, could you send out the contact information for the new P&R director so I can send an email? You may have already done that, but I do not know where it is.

I too had not been able to go and already sent in my email response and received a response back so they did actually read it which is good news. Even better news I can go to the meeting after all so I’ll see whomever there tonight. Kris Wertz
