One of the ancestral couples in the Bowater pedigree is Richard Bowater,
married at St. Peters, Derby, 15 March 1738/9, to Mary Bayley, daughter of
Thomas Bayley, Member of Parliament.

I agree entirely. Damian Lewis's performance in "Billions" has been outstanding - especially opposite Paul Giamatti, another fine actor. I'm eagerly awaiting the resumption of the series (suspended by the pandemic).

By my count Damien Lewis has 13 descents from Edward I, of which 4 are Edward III descents. As expected all the descents are through Bridget Dixie. I imagine that all the descents are probably in Genealogics, but I haven't checked.

I checked the four Edward III descents and, as expected, they're all in Genealogics. I'll assume the remaining Edward I descents are there also.

It's interesting that the 13 Edward I descents come from four successive marriages in the Dixie family: the wives of the first three baronets and the mother of the first baronet.

It's hard to tell from this listing (which is probably from the Roglo database), but it shows 17, not 13, Edward I descents for Damian Lewis (via Bridget Dixie) However, there is an error here. Number 49,554 William Hastings is the brother, not the son, of number 99,108 Edward , 2nd Baron Hastings. This is confirmed by the Hastings pedigree in Collins' Peerage (Archdale ed.), 6:650 and also by a SGM post of 7 Sept 2012 by Brad Verity which shows his correct parents and also shows his wife as Jane Sheffield. (Brad: can you identify your source for his wife?)

Thanks, Brad - this is very helpful. I see now that I did have Jane Sheffield in my data as the wife of Sir Ralph Shirley, but I had overlooked her 2nd husband. So, Jane is ancestral to Princes William and Harry by both of her husbands. A nice addition...

According to CP 8:79, Mary Lysaght's parents were married 17 Dec 1725 - not 7 Dec 1735. And the 1725 marriage date is also given in her father's bio in "History of the Irish Parliament 1692-1800", 5:147. Your 7 Dec 1735 looks like a mistake.

Since you mentioned Edward III descents, It's worth noting that Florence Augusta [Flora} Hamilton, the mother of C. S. Lewis, appears to have 15 Edward III descents - 5 via her father and 10 via her mother.

However, I have found in the Ireland, Diocesan and Prerogative Marriage License Bonds Indexes, 1623-1866 "John Lysaght and Catherine Deane" under the year 1725.

CP 8:79 says the 2nd Baron Lisle, "s. and h. by 1st wife" [i.e., Catherine Deane] was admitted to Trinity College, Dublin "24 Oct. 1745, aged 16". So he was born ca. 1729, and thus his parents cannot have been married in 1735.
