last months of the war ( graduated from high school in 1962, so most of my

New York City was full of refugees and Holocaust survivors during the
1950s. Additionally, I had two foreign languages in high school, German
and Russian (both taught by the same teacher), so I got more than my fare

reading and discussing the Wannsee Conference Protocol in high school
German class.

You're talking about the early 1950s. I attended high school between 1958
and 1962. The Holocaust and the legacy of Nazism were major issues, at
least in New York City, which at that time was a very Europe-oriented
city. Three books dealing with Nazism and the Holocaust, the historical
novel *Exodus [1958, film 1960]*, *The Diary of a Young Girl [first
published in the US in 1952, subsequently made into a successful Broadway
play in 1955, and a movie in 1959]*, and *The Rise and Fall of the Third
Reich [1960]*, were on everybody's reading list and were all best sellers.
I should also mention *Judgment at Nuremberg* [1961], a Holocaust-themed
film that was also the subject of endless discussions since it came out
when the trial of Adolf Eichmann was still a big story.

Nobody has ever claimed that the abduction was completely *kosher*, but
Eichmann was a major war criminal, as he himself freely admitted, who had
escaped justice and needed to be tried. What, in your august opinion,
should have been done about bringing Eichmann to justice? Or should he
just have been allowed to continue living his life in peace in Argentinian
exile? He had been aware enough of the gravity of the crimes he had
committed to vanish from Germany and start a new life in distant South

By the Way Eugene i do remember when they filmed parts of the film ,
in Israel . Of course we were teenagers at the time and we all wanted
