I have an exterior iSight plugged in via Firewire.  It did work for a short time.  I have tried various troubleshooting tips and it still does not work.  Firewire cable is delivering something as iSight is getting hot but no light on top and not detected in System Profiler.  I have a Mac Mini with cinema display and iSight is plugged into firewire port on cinema display.

The alternative is a different video camera for my set up.  Any suggestions?

Diana,

Try connecting the iSight directly to the back of the Mac Mini rather that the Cinema Display.

The only firewire port on Mac Mini is in use by something else.

Am I missing something here.  Do I unplug cinema display and plug in iSight to Mac Mini?

The Cinema Display's FireWire cable, that is.

No difference.  In system profiler/hardware/firewire I get message "unable to list firewire devices'.

Diana,
they do get quite warm but that is normal. Used to dry my socks on
mine when I had it! LOL

Diana,

Do you have any other FireWire devices you can connect?  If so, does the System Profiler see it/them?

Yes, just even if it's a test to see where it works/doesn't work.

Have you tried an SMC reset on the mini? Turn it off, disconnect the power then hold the power button for 10 secs, put it back together and switch on.

Regards

Sam

Thank you for suggestions.

My bluetooth headset has now failed as well so I give up and will get Skype on my iPad instead and forget video calls.
