Question for the old-timers: Does anyone remember why a trail was called Wakelee View Trail? This trail was proposed by the Open Space Committee in 1996 and constructed by the Trails Committee in 1998 around the periphery of the Waterview Drive corporate park, then mostly Pitney Bowes. Reason for asking is I put together a blog post of Shelton’s lost trails and just wondered about it. I’ve been trying to document some things that have been floating around in some our heads for a while that will eventually be lost if not written down. Our newer Trails Committee members are a bit lost at times because they weren’t working on the trail in the 90s or early 2000’s.

By the way, in reviewing the trail file for Wakelee View Trail, a letter from the Open Space Committee referenced a 100-ft conservation easement around the corporate park that I did not have on my GIS map.  It took me 2.5 hours of record searching, but I finally found the documents describing it. The probably with all these conservation easement areas I have on the GIS map is that they are ONLY on my GIS map. No one else here uses GIS and I don’t even have a current license. I would love to get them included in the online GIS map and tax assessor/engineering maps.

Even 1996 was a bit before my time. I do however remember a trail
that was along the perimeter of Coram Rd. Also a strip of open space
or maybe a conservation easement that came between Plaskon Drive and
the development around that Pitney Bowes area. I recalled it last
week, prior to your email, because a day-care facility is proposed for
change of use in one of the buildings that fronts Constitution Blvd,
near where Plaskon Dr intersects.

Regarding the GIS - nobody but you uses GIS? That makes little sense.
I'm all for having you work with a current license, but all
departments should be integrated off of one data base imo.

The only other person who ever used GIS at the City was Regis. Once he left, it was just me, and the full license expired. I can still edit the map, but don't have access to external sources of info, such as other base maps, lidar, etc.

The Wakelee View Trail must have been just before I joined Trails in the late 1990s. The first trail I worked on was the trail along the Far Mill River that you discussed in the "Lost Trails" blog.

Should Conservation pay for the ERIS license?

I think it's thousands of dollars for a license

And then, is your computer adequate for the software?

I think my computer is OK, the issue is the software and the files are on a City Hall server, not my computer, so every command is very slow. Like I can give it a command, make myself some tea, visit the restroom, and come back and the program is still processing that command.
