Question for the old-timers: Does anyone remember why a trail was called Wakelee View Trail? This trail was proposed by the Open Space Committee in 1996 and constructed by the Trails Committee in 1998 around the periphery of the Waterview Drive corporate park, then mostly Pitney Bowes. Reason for asking is I put together a blog post of Shelton’s lost trails and just wondered about it. I’ve been trying to document some things that have been floating around in some our heads for a while that will eventually be lost if not written down. Our newer Trails Committee members are a bit lost at times because they weren’t working on the trail in the 90s or early 2000’s.
By the way, in reviewing the trail file for Wakelee View Trail, a letter from the Open Space Committee referenced a 100-ft conservation easement around the corporate park that I did not have on my GIS map. It took me 2.5 hours of record searching, but I finally found the documents describing it. The probably with all these conservation easement areas I have on the GIS map is that they are ONLY on my GIS map. No one else here uses GIS and I don’t even have a current license. I would love to get them included in the online GIS map and tax assessor/engineering maps.
