Per the DSO microfilm, all 1967 Shelby G.T. cars equipped with air conditioning (Air/Con) were ordered with the “Tinted Glass” option.
This appears to be confirmed by ‘most’ of the post-built Ford records (Marti Reports) that we’ve examined so far. The relevant data is found in column 60 of the 80-column record:
From the vehicle reports sampled, a value of “B” is typically found on the Air/Con Shelby G.T. cars which would indicate tinted glass.
A value of “D” is typically found on non-Air/Con Shelby G.T. cars, which would indicate non-tinted glass.
We said “most”… because we have found exceptions in the Ford record for some Shelby G.T. cars. They include:
From DSO 2517 [211F - GT350 Automatic Air/Con Fastback]; Two cars (#0166 and #0168) according to their Marti reports, both have a value of “D” in column 60 (non-tinted glass). We’ve reviewed the microfilm for the group and confirmed that “Tinted Glass” was itemized on the DSO 2517 order. Furthermore, Dave Mathews, the registrar, has first-hand memories of #0168 which include it having regular, non-tinted glass. These ‘inconsistencies’ might be due to:
A materials shortage issue at the San Jose assembly plant resulting in non-tinted glass getting installed to one or more cars on this order. Both cars listed above were built by San Jose on 12/1/1966.
A human (data entry) error @ Ford that affected multiple cars.
A human (data entry) error @ Ford that affected all ten (10) cars on this DSO.
Note: If this ends up being a human (data entry) error, it is worth noting that code “D” was used for “Tinted Glass” for the 1966 model year vehicles, This might go toward explaining how a human error happened…
Column 60 decode from 1966 passenger vehicle order card.
This theory can be answered only by examining the Ford record (Marti reports) for other units for from this same order, DSO 2517. The table below will be populated and updated as we gather more information.
If you own one of these 10 Air/Con cars we’d love to hear from you as to what type of glass, tinted or not, was/is on the car.
It is our understanding that rear windows on all ‘67 Fastbacks were tinted.
THANKS to some help from Jeff Speegle we were able to decode column 60 in the 1967 Ford Passenger Vehicle Order Card as follows;
In Summary; The front and side window tint depended on if the Shelby G.T. received A/C or not.
‘67 Shelby G.T. cars
with no A/C had no tinted glass on the sides or the windshield
with A/C had tinted glass on the sides and the windshield.
‘67 Mustangs could be ordered
with tinted glass and without A/C
without tinted glass with A/C
