A new study has found that people with a university degree were less
likely to believe in COVID-19 misinformation and more likely to trust
preventive measures than those without a degree.

A new study has found that people with a university degree were less
likely to believe in COVID-19 misinformation and more likely to trust
preventive measures than those without a degree.
Researchers from the University of Portsmouth highlighted that both
scientific misinformation and trust in preventive measures were
significantly associated with participants' educational levels. However,
participants' religious beliefs didn’t have any impact on their belief
in scientific misinformation or trust in preventive measures.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, we found a significant negative correlation
between participants' belief in scientific misinformation and their
trust in preventive measures.

significant negative correlation between participants' belief in
scientific misinformation and their trust in preventive measures.
Basically, participants who expressed greater belief in fake news
regarding the pandemic were less likely to believe that vaccines, face
masks and social distancing are effective preventive measures.”
A cross-sectional online survey of a UK population sample was conducted
with a total of 218 adult UK residents taking part. The survey found
that only 13 per cent of participants agreed with the statement "I
believe that the UK government responded to the COVID-19 pandemic
appropriately", while 54 per cent disagreed and 33 per cent expressed a
neutral opinion.
The researchers also found that neither belief in COVID-19 fake news nor
trust in preventive measures were statistically associated with
participants' likelihood of having contracted COVID-19. This finding
reinforces the notion that preventive measures (vaccinations, face
masks, social distancing) rely on widespread community adoption, as
pathogens can still circulate within a population unless the vast
majority engages in appropriate preventive behaviours.
Dr Siani said: "Despite its limitations, this study furthers our
understanding of the links between scientific misinformation and
reluctance to comply with infection-prevention measures. It is unlikely
that COVID-19 will be the last pandemic we'll experience in our
lifetimes, so it is important to learn as much as we can from our past
experiences to improve our global responses to future challenges."
The study was published in the journal Vaccines.

likely to believe in COVID-19 misinformation and more likely to trust
preventive measures than those without a degree.

Even a mild case of COVID-19 can increase a person’s risk of
cardiovascular problems for at least a year after diagnosis, a new
study1 shows. Researchers found that rates of many conditions, such as
heart failure and stroke, were substantially higher in people who had
recovered from COVID-19 than in similar people who hadn’t had the
disease.
What’s more, the risk was elevated even for those who were under 65
years of age and lacked risk factors, such as obesity or diabetes.
“It doesn’t matter if you are young or old, it doesn’t matter if you
smoked, or you didn’t,” says study co-author Ziyad Al-Aly at
Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and the chief of
research and development for the Veterans Affairs (VA) St. Louis
Health Care System. “The risk was there.”
Al-Aly and his colleagues based their research on an extensive
health-record database curated by the United States Department of
Veterans Affairs. The researchers compared more than 150,000 veterans
who survived for at least 30 days after contracting COVID-19 with two
groups of uninfected people: a group of more than five million people
who used the VA medical system during the pandemic, and a similarly
sized group that used the system in 2017, before SARS-CoV-2 was
circulating.
Troubled hearts
People who had recovered from COVID-19 showed stark increases in 20
cardiovascular problems over the year after infection. For example,
they were 52% more likely to have had a stroke than the contemporary
control group, meaning that, out of every 1,000 people studied, there
were around 4 more people in the COVID-19 group than in the control
group who experienced stroke.
The risk of heart failure increased by 72%, or around 12 more people
in the COVID-19 group per 1,000 studied. Hospitalization increased the
likelihood of future cardiovascular complications, but even people who
avoided hospitalization were at higher risk for many conditions.
“I am actually surprised by these findings that cardiovascular
complications of COVID can last so long,” Hossein Ardehali, a
cardiologist at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, wrote in
an e-mail to Nature. Because severe disease increased the risk of
complications much more than mild disease, Ardehali wrote, “it is
important that those who are not vaccinated get their vaccine
immediately”.
COVID’s cardiac connection
Ardehali cautions that the study’s observational nature comes with
some limitations. For example, people in the contemporary control
group weren’t tested for COVID-19, so it’s possible that some of them
actually had mild infections. And because the authors considered only
VA patients — a group that’s predominantly white and male — their
results might not translate to all populations.
Ardehali and Al-Aly agree that health-care providers around the world
should be prepared to address an increase in cardiovascular
conditions. But with high COVID-19 case counts still straining medical
resources, Al-Aly worries that health authorities will delay preparing
for the pandemic’s aftermath for too long. “We collectively dropped

We have long sought a single word that strips the enemy of all

describes Islamic supremacists perfectly, but it is a phrase and not a

The actual definition of a nithing is somewhat more involved and
complex, and it gets into sexual perversions and zoomorphical
transformations (Loki’s transformation of himself into a mare to have

Sleipner is probably an example), but the following line is pertinent:
“The nithing used its malicious seid magic to destroy anything owned

enemy is known as the Unmaker: a personification of evil that is the
total antithesis of God the Creator.
The Unmaker is the main antagonist in Orson Scott Card’s
alternate history/fantasy series The Tales of Alvin Maker. Never
directly confronted, it is a supernatural force that breaks apart
matter and aims to destroy and consume everything and everyone. …To
make something is to oppose the Unmaker, but a point often made is
that this is futile. By natural law the Unmaker can tear down faster
than any man can build.
This also is an outstanding definition of militant “Islam” or Islamic
supremacy: an ideology that seeks to destroy everything into which it
comes in contact, and with which no reason, negotiation, or compromise

In summary, a nithing or niding is the enemy of Civilization, a
subhuman (through its behavioral choices, and emphatically NOT due to

toward all human industry and arts, and worthy of nothing but
extermination like any virulent disease. This is the word we will now
apply to Islamic supremacists and their enablers, and we encourage
