We will have a winter networking event on Thursday, February 5th at 3:30pm at Blue Raster followed by happy hour!
Please join us first at 3:30 for a selection of conservation GIS presentations by Blue Raster and members of our SCGIS-DC community (see lineup below). Around 5pm, we will move on to a no-host social networking happy hour nearby at Ireland's Four Courts (2051 Wilson Boulevard).
Space is limited; register early! If you cannot join us for the presentations, please meet us at the bar at Ireland's Four Courts after 5pm. Registration is not required to attend the happy hour.
Here is the presentation lineup:
1. Dashboards, Experience Builder or Both? Finding the Ideal ArcGIS Tool to Tell Your Story (Jessica Sourbeer, Blue Raster)
Jess has been a GIS Analyst with Blue Raster since 2025. In this role, Jess works with complex geospatial data and designs web mapping applications that support client needs. Jess focuses on delivering clear, effective geospatial solutions through thoughtful data management, application design, and collaboration.
2. 30x30 Progress Tracker, an Interactive Platform for Monitoring and Driving Action Toward Target 3 of the Global Biodiversity Framework (Moses Jackson, SkyTruth)
Moses leads SkyTruth’s biodiversity program, working with partners across the global conservation community to apply SkyTruth’s technology and data for greater impact. He previously spent a decade with the international arm of the U.S. Forest Service managing global programs and partnerships focused on nature-based climate solutions, and has also held roles at the National Academies, the Wilson Center, and the Peace Corps in Honduras. He holds master’s degrees in global environmental policy and in natural resources and sustainable development.
3. Two Impactful Solutions for Visualizing Tropical Deforestation using Sentinel-2 Multispectral Imagery (Joel Masselink)
Joel Masselink is a federal contractor with a passion for wildlife conservation. He serves on the SCGIS Conference Committee. In this presentation, he will demonstrate the use of a new QGIS plugin, Timelapse, which uses Earth Engine to process temporal imagery directly within the QGIS interface and generate imagery timelapses.
4. Conservation at Blue Raster (Blue Raster Team)
We look forward to seeing you there!
Best,
Janet Nackoney & Mary Bracho
