(( Quarters Ada ))

After reading the message from this Dr. M'Lyssa , Azura stood up from her desk and paced for several minutes, commanding the computer to play a string of different songs and replicate various teas. None of them matched what she was feeling, and if someone had read her computer logs they'd think she was out of her mind.

Maybe she was.

Contact was possible?! With Lazarus, and presumably anyone else. Qeene... the idea of talking to her now felt painful all over again. They could talk send text messages, but she was still forever distant. It somehow felt worse this way...

Lazarus, her "other half." She severely doubted he would still be going by "he" at this point, but she couldn't assume anything.

As if by fate, her console lit up with another message. From Dr. M'Lyssa....

Subj: A message from the other side

Lieutenant Commander Ada,

Below is a message from your counterpart.

---

Azura,

Hi. I feel like I've known you my whole life. I guess I have, even if you knew me before I knew you... I think that made sense? Grammar breaks down when you talk to yourself. What I'm trying to say is that confronting your life helped me reckon with mine. I never thought I'd get to thank you. A message sent through a pinhole can hardly capture it, but I need to try. Allow me to introduce myself: I'm Azalia Ada. My friends call me "Azzie." Without even knowing it, you gave me life, so I took your surname in your honor. And the alliteration! Had to preserve that, too.

I wish I could give you a hug.

I hope you write back.

Your sister,

Azzie

---

Sincerely,

Dr. M'Lyssa

[END MESSAGE]

Azura could feel her emotions overwhelming her, but had a hard time naming them. She was a swirling mas of joy, sorrow, exuberance, ennui, hope, love, and loneliness. Now she had a sister she could never meet.

She closed the message and sat at her desk in silence for a moment before the tears started flowing. It was a good cry, perhaps one of many.
