((Gratitude Festival, Ashalla, Bajor))

Now that the juggler had been "dispatched," Aine had gone back to enjoying her batbird stew, one giant spoonful at a time. Taking it in as fast as she was, she was lucky that half the broth didn't end up down the front of her dress.

Sherlock: ::talking with her mouthful again:: It may not work in the Gamma Quadrant so much, but you guys should get your hands on some latinum. It's always good to have some, you never know when you'll need it.

Promontory: (brightly) Oh, I have some. (beat, then more sheepishly) It’s just all back on the ship.

Herrick: How does one earn a decent keep of latinum?

Sherlock: Mine? Gambling. I never lose. Luck'o'the Irish.

She gave the pair a wink. She wasn't about to confess that the bulk of her winnings was from a fix by a confidential informant on 118.

Promontory: Oh, do you play cards!? We should get a game going on the ship.

Aine did enjoy the occasional game of cards, but her strong suit was placing bets on sports. Whether that was horses or fighters, she won more than she lost. Denali being the exception. The last time she'd played cards was way back when then Fleet Captain Nicholotti had borrowed the Gemini to help resettle some Romulan colonists. Somehow, Yogan had gotten it into his head that it was some sort of team game and attempted, rather poorly, to let his "partner" know what cards he had in some ridiculous verbal "code" he'd come up with.

Promontory: (slyly) Unless your ‘luck’ means it’s not a fair game…

Aine grinned at the Lieutenant's comment and coyly shrugged her shoulders.

Herrick: So, what you’re saying is she’ll keep the inside edge? ::grinning:: Perhaps when we get back up to DS9, I can start learning some Dabo basics from one of you; maybe some Starfleet Intelligence tips and tricks. ::waggling his eyebrows at Avander::

Promontory: (deadpan) Oh, if you can’t bluff your way through a few hands of five-card stud, they won't let you into the second year of intelligence training...

Sherlock: ::pointing at Promontory with her spoon:: That's true. And, you don't want to play Dabo. Odds are on the house by far. And that's when it's not fixed. Now, you can place side bets on the pla...

Another Bajoran had approached them. This time a Vedek. And he had something more interesting than juggling to offer.

Vedek: Would you care to take a tour of the Monastery of the Kai?

The three officers exchanged looks. It was a most tempting offer.

Promontory: I mean, I’m not opposed…

Sherlock: Neither would I.

Vedek: I’m sure I could get you an orb experience, for the right… donation.

Aine's eyes narrowed at the "Vedek." She didn't know for sure, but she was about 99.999% sure one couldn't pay for an orb experience.

Herrick: It seems like latinum does most of the talking at the gratitude festival. ::looking at Sherlock:: You might end up feeling like you have a hole at the bottom of your pocket.

Promontory: (to the Vedek) An orb experience you say? (shrugging) Eh, I’ve already had one. (beat) And it was free.

Sherlock: I don't know. This offer sounds a little ::beat:: not real. ::reaching out to grab low on the man's robes and lift them:: Are you sure you're a Vedek under there?

Vedek: Well, I never!

The man was certainly insulted, and she hoped he wasn't a real Vedek. She really had no way to tell, but his offer definitely seemed dubious. And if she ended up having another runnin with the local Constables, well, she'd just have to practice her E&E again.

Promontory: Aine, is there anything else here that’s less… commercial?

Sherlock: There's some stuff. It all depends.

Herrick: Response

Promontory: (shrugging) I’m a stranger here myself.

Herrick: Response

Sherlock: Y'know, if you guys really want to see one of the temples, there's ones you can go to.

Promontory: OK. One more shot!

Herrick: Response

Sherlock: Alright, follow me.

Aine began to lead the pair away, stopping briefly to tell Mel they were heading off and that he was on his own for a bit. The city was dotted with smaller temples throughout, many down side streets. She'd had some experience when she drunkenly stumbled upon one the first time she'd come to Bajor.

It didn't take long before she found one side street that led to an even narrower one made of cobblestones. She stood in front of the tall wooden double door and looked up and down the street then back to her fellow officers.

Promontory/Herrick: response

Sherlock: Yup, this is it. But before we go in... ::inhaling deeply and then slowly letting the breath out::

Promontory/Herrick: response

Sherlock: I need to tell you what happened the last time I came to one of these. But, you have to swear you won't tell anyone.

Promontory/Herrick: response

Aine had told no one about this. Not anyone. Because it sounded crazy. If she hadn't seen some of the things she'd seen, she'd think it was crazy.

Sherlock: I had an encounter. ::beat:: With a ghost.

Promontory/Herrick: response
