((Flashback SD 240111.05 – Infirmary, Lower Promenade, Deep Space 9))
Alyndra sighed a breath of relief, threats seemed to work with this patient, being a paediatrician, Alyndra was used to difficult patients, but her patients were not usually this difficult.
Syrex: Before we go much further though I do need to ask this, is there any particular reason why you’ve put off your check-up for this long? Are you nervous? Too busy? You can tell me, it’s all confidential here.
Alyndra was expecting the nervous lieutenant to burst out into a flurry of excuses because they’d not had a check-up since they were a cadet, but instead, she just blinked at her.
Sadar: Honestly, I, uhh, I just think it never really... I didn’t think it necessary? I-I feel fine, and I didn’t want to add extra workload to our Sickbay. We’ve had a, uhh... ::searches for word:: An interesting year. Sickbay’s been rather busy.
Alyndra put her PADD down on the nearby console, grabbed a stool and sat down next to Lt Sadar, her hands crossed.
Syrex: :: In a hushed tone:: Sometimes we feel fine, but inside we don’t always know what’s going on, these check-ups aren’t just for you to express any concerns about your health, they’re also to check that nothing is eating at you silently. I’m sure you know there isn’t a receptor for everything. Does that make sense?
Gila shook her head seriously, Alyndra knew that the Mizarian knew all of this already, or at least she should as a Starfleet doctor. Otherwise, this would be a stern reminder.
Sadar: N-No, I know, I-I’m sorry... I didn’t mean for it to get this delayed, but once it did, I hesitated to bring it up, because I would likely get a reprimand for delaying it, and thus it only got even more delayed and... Well, uhh, th-this happened.
Syrex: I understand, I do. But all Doctors, including me, including you only want the best for their patients. Knowing that someone was putting off seeing me out of fear would be really upsetting to me if I weren’t a paediatrician. No kid wants to see the doctor, but not seeing a doctor when you need to is worse - it’s always worse.
((Sickbay Complex, Deck 7, USS Artemis-A))
It was Alyndra’s turn at bat. Newly promoted and keen to avoid the same fate as her Mizarian friend, she’d made an appointment to see her. Skipping down the carpeted corridors of the USS Artemis-A, she appreciated the silver linings this working holiday had offered, despite its rocky start.
Reuniting with Gila, meeting the legendary Vitor Silveira (whom she’d once turned into a toy), and crossing paths with the Lil’ Ensign Tho’Bi and Gnai were definite highlights.
As she stepped through the doors of the sickbay complex for the first time, her eyes landed on a hooded figure across the room—someone who looked all too familiar.
Syrex: Well, Well, Well…. If it isn’t my old friend… Lieutenant Sadar?
Sadar: Response
Alyndra could have sworn that she’d never seen someone freeze quite that quickly before.
Syrex: I’m here to be a good influence. I’m here for my check-up with you!
Alyndra beamed at the Mizarian doctor, smiling enough that it might ease her discomfort. However, she still wasn’t sure if Dr Sadar was anxious about her, or just generally anxious. Perhaps being on her home turf this time would help? At least she shouldn’t fall asleep… again.
Sadar: Response
