Subject: Request for HSS: forward the bullying survey
Namaste Yelloji and Dr. Ambasthaji, CC to Suhag (HAF Executive Director) and Samir (HAF Senior Director). We hope you are doing well, and hope that new year has started off well.We would like to request for HSS to forward the following so that it reaches in the US ages 11-24. This is a survey of bullying, which will provide data that is very important to influencing policy makers, academics, publishers, and textbook decision makers about the need to change the portrayal of Hinduism in education to reduce bullying. We would like to have several hundred more youth complete this prior to our deadline of March 1, 2018 so that we have a better set of data. Earlier data was very useful to the work of HAF & HEF in the CA textbook fight over the past few years. We hope that you can disseminate this over email and encourage our local shakhas to promote this anonymous survey. We can speak with you about it as needed. You may have gotten this request separately as well over the past few months, but I wanted to personally followup.
Regards,Mihir
Namaste,
WILL YOU HELP PREVENT BULLYING OF HINDU CHILDREN IN US SCHOOLS?
On Sunday, January 28, HAF Senior Director Samir Kalra (above right) and HAF Board Member Rajiv Pandit (above left) spoke to over 60 adults and children at the Dallas-Fort Worth Hindu Temple Society. The subject: the ongoing bullying and bias our children regularly face in the US school system. Of the many questions parents asked, the consistent theme of them was simply “Why are our kids being bullied?”
Our first bullying survey, Classroom Subjected, showed that inaccuracies and stereotypes common to how Hinduism is taught in textbooks contributes to bullying. HAF has been working to correct this aspect of the problem for a number of years, and last year, we had a significant victory in California.
Another part of the problem is simply that there is little data available about how and the extent to which Hindus are being bullied in the US. Our first bullying survey was a step in the right direction, but we need more information to get a fuller picture of the situation.
That’s why we need all Hindu youth, ages 11-24, to take our second bullying survey TODAY.
We’re entering the last month of data collection. Responses have been coming in, so if you’ve already had your children do their part, thank you! But you can still help us. Please share the link below with your friend circle, community groups, temples and balavihars, and encourage other Hindu American youth, ages 11-24, to take the survey.
Here’s the link to share:
https://tinyurl.com/HAFBullyingSurveyThe results of the survey will be published next year to help prevent and combat religion-based bias and bullying. The more data we have, the more reliable our findings. The more reliable our findings, the better able we are to tackle the issue.
Survey data will be collected until March 1, 2018.
