Please find attached the latest Rozgar update. As you know, we have a new minister for Rural Development, and a spate of announcements. The "Developments in Delhi" section contains these developments, and of particular importance is the clarification that NREGA work cannot be suspended in the agricultural season, as well as the NREGA Audit of Scheme Rules, 2011. There are several updates from the field, in the "From the Field" section as well. We would like to draw your attention to the UID Primer, in the "Reports and Papers" section. This primer is currently in English, but if you can provide support for a translation in other languages, please write to uidfor...@gmail.com

Last month we trained about 40 women mates in lalitpur (and about 25 from other districts of UP). Nrega work has slowed down due to the rains and in lalitpur, the women are struggling to start work on the ground, but they've grown immensely in confidence with the new image. We have also mobilised women labourers around the new schedule of rates for bundelkhand (46 cubic foot for women, as compared to 60 cubic foot for men). Having women mates is also beginning to increase women's participation in other ways, and already the demand for child-care facilities, etc is growing at the worksites.
In Admapur village, Sewapuri block of Varanasi district, on 30th August 2011, NREGA Labourers were beaten by the Ex-Pradhan of the village, because the Ex pradhan did not want work happening on a site under the new Pradhan. 8 Labourers working on a land-levelling work have been wonded seriously. The labourers have filed an FIR against the Ex-Pradhan, howeverm the BDO of Sewapuri, whose responsibility it is to take make sure that work proceeds without hindrances, is not taking action to get the work completed. The NREGA Commissioner in UP and the DC have been informed.
