Perhaps if there was a Zagster station at the Hudson Ave. Walmart or on Ridge Road near the Halal Market & Restaurant (near Seneca Ave.) the Hudson Ave. Zagster Station might have additional users. Also perhaps in the shopping area along Hudson Ave. near Kosciusko St.; even near the Fire Station at Hudson & St. Jacobs St. In otherwords, Zagster has to place stations where people go who might want to use their service go to shop or work.

More advertising by Zagster in this neighborhood might encourage more people to use Zagster or at least try it once. I suggest brochures in every mailbox on each of the side streets off Hudson Avenue between Hudson & Joseph/Hudson & Henry/Baron St. from the CSX trestle to Ridge Road.  This is relatively inexpensive advertising and worth the money. Another factor might be the number of people who do not know how to ride a bicycle.

This is a walking neighborhood. Hudson Ave. is a crowded street with much double parking and instantaneous automobile stopping when the driver/passenger sees a friend or when a friend sees a car with friends in it. Thus there is a fear of bicycling on Hudson Ave.

If individuals who do not live in this neighborhood continually have to finance this Zagster station then there is no "ownership" of the station by local residents. No ownership not only means low usage but also there is a greater chance of damage to the Zagster station and bicycles. Perhaps Zagster should try to have each of the stores along Hudson Avenue make a contribution to this and other Hudson Ave. stations. There are more retail businesses along Hudson Avenue than in all of the downtown area instide the inner loop! More retail businesses equal more sales tax revenue. Yet the City, City Council, City Neighborhood Dep't. stress downtown development. I doubt if this Zagster station will ever be profitable.

I believe it is very patronizing for residents of the City and its suburbs to continually finance a service such as Zagster which the City/County/RGRTA should be financing as a community service.

So far, this is our main revenue source for the Hudson Ave Zagster (Pace) bikeshare station.

Do we have a feel on this station's performance? (Understanding that mere
numbers are not the sole justifications for best decisions). Andy

was a low volume station overall with 84 rides started and 68 rides ended,
but the northeast part of the city was not used as heavily as other areas.
By comparison our Adams Street station
<https://www.google.com/maps/place/Zagster+Bike+Station:+Corn+Hill/@43.1487625,-77.614961,168m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m13!1m7!3m6!1s0x89d6b4fb9ada3dd7:0xa8a40a1b01762856!2sFrederick+Douglass+St+%26+Adams+St,+Rochester,+NY+14608!3b1!8m2!3d43.1487166!4d-77.6142372!3m4!1s0x89d6b4fb9bbcba03:0x76528206a3444954!8m2!3d43.1486557!4d-77.6144587>
had 453 rides started; 606 rides ended. Pace (formerly Zagster) attributes
the low numbers to not having enough stations in the area. They may be
adding a couple more stations in the northeast this season to help boost
the numbers. And our little committee would like to help by doing outreach
in the 14621 area to help galvanize support and pull together a coalition
of potential funders. But yeah, we’ve got our work cut out for us.Mike*

This is some of what I was thinking. I suspect there are a few reasons. Ride station lack of density, cost to the rider (this is one of the lower income areas locally) being two I think of initially.

I have to admit I don’t remember the community support/investment in stations as this was coming on line, my bad. Now so much more of the business model makes sense.

It’s interesting to watch the start up of these businesses and how they find financial stability. I’ve been a fly on the wall WRT the RIT ride share program this last Fall. Full Moon Vista was the feet on ground service and I shook my head more then once at the bikes’ conditions and the initial free rides/rentals that was the case. There are a few changes coming for Spring 2018....

I’ll contribute to the Hudson station because I think it’s the right path to explore, and try to keep my cynical side in check for another year. Andy

Also, I think the alternatives to smart phone payment may help ridership in that area.

We really should try to get Unity Health (Roch General, et al) to follow the lead of their counterpart (Strong Health)a, and contribute.  This would expand the influence of the bikeshare program northward.
