He hasn't posted since May 4th.

Did he die?

Stuff he's posted in the past led me to believe he lives in Kentucky. I did a quick search and didn't see any recent obituaries for anyone named Sullivan in the local papers there.

Kind of odd that I never mentioned his name, yet so far everyone knows whom I'm talking about.

You may be right. His Ham license has an address in Kentucky. That did surprise me. However, he wouldn't be the first Ham to use an address that forwards mail to him.

I was never sure where J. Hugh Sullivan lived. I just assumed
it was Alabama since he is such an ardent fan. I know he said he was
in his 90s, and I think he said his wife was 91 or 92 when she recently
passed away.

In any case, I wish you all the best J. Hugh.

Hugh may be a racist and I almost never agreed with him about anything, but I still don't wish any harm to him. I looked him up because I cared enough to be a little worried about him. Also, I just happened to remember him saying he was a Ham (which made the search easy) and it was a way to evade my teleworking for a few minutes. I hope he's OK.

I’m not sure what you’re implying by asking about Irish famines but if it’s
some kind of implication of Irish inferiority you might want to read up on
the history. At the time of the famine Ireland was basically an exploited
colony of England and it was English landowning and economic practices that
turned a potato blight into a widespread famine.

mislead people into thinking Ireland was somehow politically equal or near

The blacks in South Africa had a better life under apartheid than the
Irish (predominantly Catholics) had under English rule. Their lands were
taken, their language banned, education banned, Catholicism largely banned.

From OTD.ie: Ben Franklin's 1771 visit to Ireland.

"Franklin travelled outside Dublin and reported: “The lower people in
that unhappy country, are in a most wretched situation, thro’ the
restraints on their trade and manufactures. Their Houses are dirty
hovels of mud and straw; their clothing rags, and their food little
beside potatoes. Perhaps three fourths of the Inhabitants are in this
situation.” He also visited Scotland and reported that the situation he
saw among the rural population there was similar."

So from now on when I want to say "nigger," all I have to do is add the word "white" beforehand, and I'm good to go.

If anyone gives me any grief about saying "white nigger" in public, I'll try to have them read this thread, which gives me all the cover/immunity I need.
