Gilchrist gets another bad decision

Clarke to Tendulkar, 2 runs, tossed up well down leg stump, Tendulkar
gets down to paddle it away, Gilchrist and Clarke let out an elongated
appeal but the umpire just walks away.
Horrible. Gilchrist has appealed didn't he? How can the umpires say
no? OK so Tendulkar got a couple of runs. Fine. But surely a neutral
umpire should know the correct procedure under these circumstances?
1. Ask Gilchrist if Tendulkar's out.
2. Give him out.
3. Then check with Gilchrist - exactly what did he appeal for since
Tendulkar collected a brace from the paddle shot?
4. Perhaps Gilchrist could talk it over with Ponting and they could
come up with some form of dismissal. Let me see ... hmm ... how about
caught at fine leg? The ball must have been picked up by the fine leg
fielder (else Sachin would have run 4). So surely that's a catch.
Right? C'mon on we are talking of Clarke bowling here. The guy that is
an expert catcher. Just ask Ganguly. After he's taken so many catches
for Australia to deny him a wicket is really unfair.

annoys me? It is not that the umpire said No. Umpires are allowed to
say no to Aussies once in a while. But the umpire did not check with
Ponting. He said no without checking with Ponting first. Does it get
any worse than this?

Very funny.
Its important to see the proper side of this, that Australia will not get
any 50/50 decisions for the rest of summer, while their opposition will.
They will have to start playing more for edges rather than trying to trap
LBW because the umpires are going to be really strict, especially if the
bat *might* be anywhere near the ball.

In those situations the benefit of doubt should ALWAYS go to the
batsman as has been the case in cricket history.
