Somewhere in this endless string of subject drift I have been informed that Flunky who has claimed over and over to be an engineer said that tire size that will fit in a bike is not influenced by horizontal dropouts as opposed to vertical dropouts.

One would think that the universal changeover to vertical dropouts in the bike industry might have clued him in if he didn't have sufficient operating brain cells to figure it out for himself, but if this is actually what he said he has just proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that he is not a real engineer whether via education or self training.

That's too dumb even for Flunky. If he means the tyre width, that depends on the distance between the chain stays near where they are welded onto the bottom bracket shell -- or brazed on in better class bikes, though I doubt Flunky makes such fine distinctions -- and on the width between the seat stays where the tyre must pass between them. If the wretched little man means the tyre diameter, whether it will fit is mostly a matter of the length of the chainstays. Horizontal frame ends are generally about or less than 50mm long, and a part of that must be reserved for taking up chain slack, so horizontal tyres of larger diameter might be accommodated by moving the axle back in whatever space the slot has left. A recent example was on a German Pedersen pattern bike, which could accommodate 60mm Big Apples between losing the mudguards and moving the Rohloff axle back a few millimetres, even though it had been designed around the 50mm Big Apples and with mudguards. -- AJ

Well, as an engineer he is certainly a failure. If the tire is too large to slip into the horizontal slots at their leading edge without hitting the seat tube that is what controls the size of tire that will work and not the actual width of space between the stays.

I wonder what goes through the minds of the stupid 5 when virtually every news story coming out on the Youtube channels or Fox News is showing them to be completely wrong about everything they say. Of course Flunky and Krygowski would promote CNN and MSNBC as a source of "news" rather than the pure propaganda that we've seen proven again and again - I.E. very large scale controlled studies of masks on nurses in hospitals have show no statistical advantage to them. It isn't as if we have known that since the 1918 killer flu. What it has done is psychologically damaged children at an age where they MUST see the faces of people they are talking to.

The release of the Pfizer papers shows that Pfizer KNEW that this vaccine not only did not prevent covid-19 but that the third most common side effect of the vaccine was - wait for it - COVID-19. And this was BEFORE the vaccine was mass injected. They knew it was poison and the Stupid 5 were the first one's in line. Aren't these the sort of people you want to even suggest anything to you, let alone demand you obey?

lol, our stupid little tommy can't figure out how to get a wheel with a larger tire in a bike with horizontal dropouts.

Horizontal tires - is that like a battery with lots of torque?

Really? Why would you have horizontal frame ends except for hub gears and fixies and other single-speeders? I haven't had a derailleur bike in more twenty years. I understand that you're too cheap or too poor to afford a Rohloff, but the Shimano Nexus hub gearboxes are cheap, and the NuVinci are also much cheaper than a Rohloff.

That's very good, you nice little man, precisely what I want to hear from you. Let me help you work through the logic of your realisation, at long last, that you're wasting your time stalking me. Why should an allegedly important engineer, like you claim to be, waste his time stalking an inoffensive retired intellectual? Isn't there something worthwhile you can do? Since I do adversarial polemics for a rich living, the chances of some crude paperwork queen from a university with more actors than engineers among its notables leaving a mark on me is nil, nada, zero, as proven by a long, long list of worthless, bitter little people, just like you, who all started out cocky, whose names I forgot the day after they imploded. I suppose Flunky thinks he can support his lies with yet more lies. So rather than be at least a contributing member, his desire for fame makes him nothing more than a foolish little liar. He spends a great deal of time kissing Krygowski's ass like Frank did that of Jobst. Now while Frank no doubt did so out of professional admiration
(not particularly well founded), Flunky most certainly is a wishing closet queen.

Silly little troll....It's something I figured out over 3 decades ago when trying to fit the fattest tire that would fit between the bottom bracket stays on my first CX bike. Gee stupid, if it's so simple even _I_ could figure it out, I guess that tells us all we need to know about you. Nah, I'll let you and your stroke buddy kunich wallow in your ignorance - way more fun.

Why don't you ask every bike manufacturer before the 90's? Every bike was made with them. I currently have an '84 Basso GAP, an '85 Ross Signature, and an '89 Peter Mooney with horizontal dropouts. They also all have derailleur hangers and shifter braze-ons....gee sparky, why would they do that?

Yet here I am....And I can guarantee you, fuckwit, there isn't anything you could possibly 'explain' wrt electric bicycles that I wouldn't be able to wrap you up with a technical challenge you'd wouldn't be able to answer with anything more than your usual psycho-babble. No less similar that your stroke buddy kunich claiming PWM was sued for testing cables but was unable to give any example.

Two lies - You are extremely offensive and at best a pseudo-intellectual. In reality, you're dumb as a fucking stone.

Two more lies - You're retired by your own admission - so you don't do anything for a living, and you were never paid to be a polemicist. If you were, point to a publication which paid you so richly with links to your articles.

hey!, That's pretty funny coming from a witless little troll responding to a thread written about me by someone else. You don't get to tell anyone what thread they can post in asshole. As for bad vibes this thread is built on your and tommys obsessive hatred of me. "instant karma's gonna get you"

Got a reference for that claim? I guess we could compare it to your body of work at the irish times - so proud of you they've scrubbed every reference to any work of yours except a critical response to a musical review your wrote. That will be your legacy, fuckwit - scrubbed from the annals of literature as useless and irrelevant.

Flunky is the obsessive type. He has been obsessing over Krygowski for some time and Franks knows it and it is giving him the creeps. Frank's single use for Flunky is to gloat when he calls me names. This must be a really strange world that Frank lives in. I wonder if Frank's wife knows about Flunky and Frank's growing attraction?

Poor Frank - he believes himself to be the voice of expertise. A replacement for Jobst Brandt as it were. Frank knew absolutely nothing about Jobst and approved of Jobst's outrage when I told the least negative things about Jobst and Jobst went ballistic and published the address of my mother's house. Then all of his hypnotized followers followed THAT by publishing the names and addresses of other family members of another Tom Kunich that lives in my town. The mental illness was just the sort of thing Frank always wanted in his students and followers. Too bad that anyone with a brain in their heads thought Frank - let's say, NOT an expert at anything.

More fantastic jealousy from Tommy. Frank knows I'm not obsessing over him, you're just jealous because he and I can speak with civility to each other

Let's have a chat with your wife about you're obsession with me and frank which is so bad you devote entire discussion threads to us. Your little buddy dakota said it best:

Nothing from Frank has claimed that or even implied it. This is just another case of you lying to try and distract attention from your own ineptitude.

Yeah, I'm sure that Jobst created a thread called "tom kunich is an ass" over a polite disagreement.

Oh, I expect he rides. After all he claims to be a racer if you can call being chased off of the course by the broom wagon racing. But not having a clue about horizontal dropouts is a pretty heavy accusation against him being a real engineer. Most racing in the USA is criteriums and the exact weight and material of the bike doesn't make much difference. Since a major feature of heavily attended criteriums is crashing it is probably better to have an aluminum bike like my Trek Alpha. Aluminum doesn't break easily like very light carbon fiber. Why spend $7,000 for a bike that you can get for $1,000 one lb heavier? Or maybe you want to spend $13,000 for a frameset of a Colnago V3-R? No thanks. I don't even want to ride my Trek Alpha because it has a Bontrager carbon fork on it.

Actually three, but you'll be excused for not paying attention as you so often do (not).

No, I never made any such claim. Of course we should expect such dishonesty from a vapid troll who only characterizes good science as that which confirms his perverted world view.

Oh, you mean like my 8-year old full carbon fiber TT bike (off brand chinese pinarello knockoff)? Or maybe my 5-year old Cannondale Habit3 FS MTB? Or my 5 year old Scott CR1?

My riding and racing have been well-documented in this forum.
No, the real explanation is that you're a useless old pile of shit who lashes out because he destroyed any positive legacy he may ever have had in the shambles of what he did to his own career.

> Oh, I expect he rides. After all he claims to be a racer if you can call being chased off of the course by the broom wagon racing.

Yeah, this is being chased off the course by the broom wagon:

https://www.strava.com/activities/5754188955 - hitting 40 MPH in a flat sprint for 7th in the regional championships is a good way to keep from getting pulled.

> But not having a clue about horizontal dropouts is a pretty heavy accusation against him being a real engineer.

Hey stupid, just because _you_ can't figure out how to get an oversized tire past horizontal dropouts doesn't mean it can't be done. It just means you're an idiot.

> Most racing in the USA is criteriums and the exact weight and material of the bike doesn't make much difference.

Sure, because you don't need a light and responsive bike in order to keep up with attacks and accelerations out of corners. Throw a hill in that crit and that pound makes a big difference at the end of the race. Of course, there's no way you would ever have a clue about that, since your single racing experience was getting pulled.

> Since a major feature of heavily attended criteriums is crashing

HAH!!! Maybe the ones you got thrown out of. It's not uncommon, but hardly a "major feature".

> it is probably better to have an aluminum bike like my Trek Alpha. Aluminum doesn't break easily like very light carbon fiber. Funny, I've been riding CF forks for over 20 years. The only issue I has was very recently where an aluminum drop out detached itself on my Easton EC90 that I bought in 2001. Maybe it's because you're too broke to buy anything but old used shit from Ebay or cheap Chinese crap that you have these bad experiences.

Poor Flunky can't understand why the only people that want to be friends with him are 4 others willing to call me names.

I ran across my uncle's boxing record, 65 fights and 45 wins with 16 clear knockouts. And middle weights don't knock people out. Normally they get TKO's or "down for the count". I am bigger and heavier than my uncle. I have a much longer reach. Tell me where you live Flunky.

> Not very bright, are you Flunky? Or is that why you're called Flunky, because you can do nothing right?

Way smarter than you or kunich. I figured out how to mount a wheel with an oversized tire into a bike with horizontal dropouts. I also know that batteries don't have torque, and that dents in bike tubes don't magically pop out from road vibration.

It's an odd poker game that you're playing. Every time someone asks
to see your hand, you raise the stakes. I suspect the idea is that
larger numbers are more impressive or intimidating, which should cause
the other players to withdraw. I think you're bluffing. Let's see
your hand.

As of Dec 21, 2022, you claimed to have had 32.1K members:
<https://groups.google.com/g/rec.bicycles.tech/c/KjG6nUdy6iA/m/0LvkWvXgAQAJ>
"There are currently 32.1K members..."

That's gain of about 1,500 members in 4 months or about 13 new members
per week. Very impressive. That's two new writers every day assuming
you don't bother to delete members who have dropped out of the writers
group. I'm surprised that the publishing business hasn't discovered
your group and given you credit for providing them with an endless
supply of new writers. However, it will all come to an end in the
near future. AI (artificial intelligence) authoring tools will
eventually replace writers:
<https://duckduckgo.com/?va=i&t=ht&q=ai+authoring+tools&ia=web>

Try it yourself:
<https://freequillbot.com/ai-writer>
I fed it a starting sentence of "Andre's writing group does not exist"
and asked it to produce a 50 word paragraph:

"After being asked questions over the last year about all of this in
several interviews, and after realizing I have either spent or led
critique groups over the last twenty years, I have decided to write a
blog post about the dos and don'ts in a writers’ group."

Not great, but certainly a passable start.
