'...cities turn climate into weather' --- Paul Goodman

A mate in Ottawa writes to me on hand of my Christmas card:
"In one of Paul Goodman's essays, he remarks that '...cities turn climate into weather.'" It's a deep, deep, deep remark of the sort Ridealittle reflexively condemns as "a troll" because it hurts his head to think of all the implications.

Vaclav Smil, a not so rare engineer who understands economics and other relevant sciences (we just don't see all that many engineers with brains on RBT), a left-winger with his brains in gear, has a bunch of examples spread across his books, which I highly recommend as compulsory reading for greenies, global warmiess, global icicle pops and other "concerned" citizens whose ignorant, arrogant nostrums are not only a danger to people, but to Gaia herself.
