On an even lighter (and possibly less contentious) note than “bike-flipping”, I recall that last January someone had the excellent idea to post 13 favorite bike-related pics from 2013, and to invite others to do the same.  I found the resulting sets great fun to peruse, so I thought we might try a reprise for 2014.  Here are my “14 for ‘14” – only one non-bike-related pic (proud Pop exception!), a couple featuring the occasional blood and pain of biking, 14 bikes (counting the ones in the backgrounds, including seven Rivs and a 15th century replica!), a few bike trip pics, a bike-by-the-water, and the annual “Jeez, my shop is a mess!” pic.  Captions tell the stories.  Enjoy – and show us yours!

Wow. I love doing this. Thank you for reminding me to do this. Not having memory, I forget, and photos are my memory. I "remembered" all kinds of wonderful things. Here are fourteen of them: https://www.flickr.com/photos/32311885@N07/sets/72157648184747494/

Great photos, but I must admit I was expecting Daguerreotypes, or at least prints made from wet plate negatives .. or maybe charcoal drawings on birch bark.

Digital photos from Deacon Patrick? Shocking!

Great shares by Tom, John, Erl and Deacon!  I love the idea, must have missed the post last year but I'm glad to have caught it this time around.  Putting this collection together for me was interesting... I've been through an embarrassing # of bikes this year, two not even pictured.. but biking has also given me new angles to engage with my Parents, allowed me to meet many new people (both in person and virtually), awesome opportunities to get to know the industry in CA, WI and elsewhere.  Honestly this has been a heck of a year from a cycling perspective and I really hadn't paused to think much of it till this thread.  Thanks Tom!!

Some folks did this on ibob as well--me included.  It's fun. I sold my Hunq in the summer, but still got some good pics of it in 2014.

From what I see in your photos (and others), I think I need to do some riding on the left coast -- the Bay Area gets the spotlight, but SoCal looks like an awesome place to ride.

Hi Bob,

Well I make the best of what I have here in Los Angeles which is pretty darn nice. I think Los Angeles gets a bad reputation with all the car business and pathetic mass transit though I read somewhere that Los Angeles has the potential to be one of the greatest bicycle cities. If we can open up the vast number of pathways along the many water channels it would be spectacular! What's really amazing though is the proximity to wilderness from 10 million people! I can ride from my house( with a lot of climbing ) and be completely alone. Then there's the vibrancy of the communities that make up the greater Los Angeles, that back drop gives me endless opportunities for interesting rides. I've barely scratched the surface.

Anytime you want to visit I have a stable and your welcome to borrow any bike for a ride.

And one of these days I need to make it East for some back roads cycling.

Cheers,

~Hugh

+1 for Hugh's observations.  LA is a huge beast if you just drop in, but with local guidance you can find some great cycling.  The ultimate is to explore the Bay Area, then head south on Hwy 1.  With some judicious use of trains, one can skip over some of the really unrewarding riding areas.  Allow 2-3 weeks for optimal results.
