Thinking about installing my Nitto Dirt Drop on a bike with Paul Racers.

Paul's site (language appears to be picked up verbatim by third parties selling) says two of its Funky Monkey's work with quill stems.  One is a 1" model, the other 7/8ths.  I think the 1" is meant to be installed between headset spacers where as the 7/8ths is bolted around the quill itself.  Unfortunately this is not entirely clear from the description.

Yes, I can check Paul and will if no one here has any experience with the FMs.

I use the “1" Threadless” version on my Atlantis; it fits in where spacers would be. No idea how that differs from the 7/8ths version.

I'm using a Funky Monkey with my MAP, with a Nitto Technomic stem. The
steerer on the MAP isn't notched, and I had a problem with headsets
loosening or tightening on their own; the LBS suggested a front canti
cable stop that clamped on the stem, and the FM is the only one in
current production I know of. Yes, it's the 7/8" size. And yes, it
works fine.

Here's what the 7/8" version looks like clamped on a quill stem:

So why can't that go below the locknut? I have a clamp on Mount from Tektro and just assumed it went below the stack. It keeps the top cup from riding up, I guess. I haven't had an issue with looseness.

because that isn't the quill, it's the threaded portion of the steerer?

We're talking apples and oranges here: the 1" is for threadless, the
7/8" for threaded.

Duh, the threads. My brain isn't awake yet.

Having used the traditional quill and headset mounted cable stops, I tried this one from Tektro last year that attaches at the brake mount instead.  Gotta say, the front cant brake feels better than the other way, up high. It also allows for moving the bars up or down a bit without needing to adjust the cable every time , sweet :)

sweet except if the hole in the fork crown is already occupied by the
attachment tang of a front rack...

I'm sure there is a way to make it work even with a tang, as the hanger portion itself and the bolt are 2 pieces :)

Figured I would get some good, on point advice.  Thanks Steve and team!

So are you using the 7/8ths, 1" or 1 1/18ths inch?  My question was which of the thre works with the Nitto Dirt Drop without being incorporated into the spacers.  Turns out that is the 7/8ths.

Which works with Bullmoose?

Here's a vote for the fork-crown mounted Tektro cable housing stop.  Mine's with a Nitto mini front rack.  Works like a dream.  The 7/8", as already confirmed, mounts directly to the stem (quill or bullmoose), the 1" around the steerer of which that quill stem or bullmoose slides into, within the stack of your headset, and 11/8" around steerer beneath your 'ahead' clamp on stem, of which you would never find on the RBW site.  I personally dislike the idea of mounting the cable stop directly to the stem (as pictured above).  This way prohibits ease of raising or lowering the stem (which is a profound benefit of the quill or bullmoose, as RBW espouses) with ease, as you would then need to reposition the housing stop.  When mounted within the headset stack, or on the fork crown, you can raise (or drop) your stem (and bars), with no effect on your brake setup, to your hearts desire...
Photo (if I succeeded in attaching it) is of my front brake cable housing stop and rack set up (with a P&S rack tang).  It currently has the post of a Nitto mini holding it in place (and I'll see if I can find a photo... or maybe I'll just take one...)

Ride on

Whoops... of course the fork mounted stop wouldn't work with racers... duh.  But I still advocate using a 1" mounted to your steerer within your headset stack, if there's room.
