FS: near-mint Atlantis frameset and 26" Mavic/chris king wheelset

Hello group,

I'm reluctantly selling my recently-acquired 56 cm Atlantis frameset and 26" wheelset.   I was hoping to turn these into a whole bike, but it wasn't meant to be.

Here's the 411:

- 56 cm Rivendell Atlantis, Waterford-built.  Only blemishes are from previous owner fitting wheels (scratches at dropouts) and from me fitting a seatpost (really tiny nick in paint at seatpost clamp).   Never been built up or ridden.  Still packed as if it had come straight from Walnut Creek.  Includes installed FSA headset and front/rear brake cable hangers.

- 26" Mavic XC717 rims, 32 hole, black with ceramic coated side wall.  Laced to silver Chris King classic hubs (135 mm rear spacing).  Rims show signs of use and wear but true and in good condition.  Hubs are particularly shiny.  No skewers.

$1600 for the frameset, $200 for the wheelset or $1750 for the package (shipped).

Looking good! A couple of bottle cages & some bar tape & you're on the road.  I've mentioned this before but bikes always look so good before we clutter them up with racks'n'bags.  But that's the price we pay for usefulness.  Definitely a first world problem.

I agree Doug.  Just adding the bottle cages this afternoon spoiled the clean look in a way.  But such a versatile machine!  I'm excited.

You don't need the pressure spec; just pump to 60 psi & ride until mushy (sometime next month), then pump up again.  Tire pressure is highly over-rated. :-)

Love it!! If I may ask, what chain rings are you running, and BB spindle length? I've got white 44/30 on my Atlantis. Thinking of dropping to a 44/28. Beautiful bike!

Love it as well, Z. Neat build. I'll be curious to hear how you like those interrupter levers. I was thinking about adding them when I put the Noodles back on my Sam. I still think the Atlantis is one of the prettiest bikes Rivs.

Thanks Mark.  I'm set up with 44/28 and a 115 mm spindle length.  After installation, I've decided that I could easily go with a 113 mm and achieve the chainline recommended by White Ind.

I don't know if this will necessarily translate to your bike (nice build, by the way!).  For one thing, I have an ENO (mountain) crank rather than the road VBC model.  Also, my bike is a new 26"- wheeled model with longer chainstays (than earlier 26" Atlantiseses).  I'm thinking the longer stays allow for fat tire clearance without the dramatic curves of the older models, and provide a little extra chainring clearance as well.

It rides wonderfully.

Thanks! Yes mine is a 700 and a 113 would never work. I think I have a 121. Makes sense that you have more room in a 26" frame though. Enjoy!

Do you know the chainstay length of your bike?  I know Riv's geometry charts so 44cm but another post here on the topic indicated people saying the new ones were longer but I don't recall if a specific measurement was ever mentioned. 

A 56cm Atlantis is my grail, should I ever accumulate the funds to purchase a used frameset.

I measured this Atlantis' chainstays at 46cm before Z got it. I asked a couple of folks at Riv if this was a running change to the geometry, and neither were aware of any recent changes. This is probably a question for Grant. I'm not sure the geo charts are always up to date.

Update for Chris:  I busted out the measuring tape and eyed the chainstays at 455 mm.

My old Atlantis (~2005) has 45cm chainstays, roughly.  700c.  58cm.

Reminds of me of the bike that first got me interested in Rivendells.  I ended up selling last year because it was way too big for me, but I used the money to buy my Sam Hillborne.
