Though a recent Blug post stated a Nitto restock, I can'tell seem to find this item, only the RIGHT side mount (I know, a very picky distinction of mine).

Before I call Riv, I wondered if any who uses this mount could testify to its effectiveness (or if possibly there's one out there FS?), or does anyone know of a similar option for less money?

Thanks!

If you have a front rack with an eyelet along the front left side of the rack, you can just directly bolt a hanging Edeluxe II there if you decide to go with that light. No need for any brackets.

I have a Nitto M-18, so no eyelets. I also usually run a front basket.

Does the Nitto M-18 have a fender support boss? If so, and you have a standard bottom-mount headlight, you can use a Velo Lumino headlight mount on the fender in front of the rack:

Otherwise, you can make your own bracket for the M-18 by attaching a draw bolt (like the ones that attach a fender to a stay) to one strut, and a home-made bracket to the draw bolt. You can make a very sturdy bracket from an old centerpull brake arm:

I have definitely considered your fender attachment (which seems really sweet), but the rack has no fender support. Also, this year I removed my fenders over the summer months, and will probably continue to do so, so I want a more permanent attachment. I also, unfortunately, don'the have any old centerpull brakes lying around!

But seems like it would only work with the hanging Edelux...

Hanging gets you the cleaner, direct mount to a rack eyelet. Especially good if you are using a front rack with a front bag as it hangs out of the way of all that.
Read more here about the mounting benefits of the hanging Edeluxe: https://janheine.wordpress.com/2012/01/09/edelux-headlights-for-hanging-attachments/

Upright gets you cleaner mount to brake bolt at fork crown, or fender mount.

Read here about the electronic diffs between the Edeluxe II upright versus hanging:
https://janheine.wordpress.com/2015/05/08/hanging-edelux-ii-headlights/

Hanging-no auto-on light sensor
Upright-comes with auto-on light sensor

Decide which version suits your tastes.

Anton:
I did the Sheldon nut version on my M18 on my Sam. Haven't put the light on it yet. Waiting til I get another light one day. But it is Edeluxe-ready now.

I direct bolted my hanging Edeluxe II on my Bleriot's VO Randonneur rack's eyelet.

But seems like there might be advances in lighting coming. I could be wrong.

I think Garmin has a light system now that brightens and dims as your speed changes. Both head and taillight setup. It works with their gps/cyclometer.
And I can't remember who, but I think that I read somewhere about a light that acts like a brake light so cars can see when you brake. Maybe that's the Garmin, though.

It's been a few months since a post on this thread....  so I want to bring it back to see if anyone has any recent experience.

I'm trying to mount a LUXOS U below the bag on a Soma Champs Elysses front rack (struts have no built-in mounts).

1. is it an effective solution? is it jiggly? many of my homemade mounts don't keep the Luxos from jiggling around.

2. does the diameter of the strut matter? Are they all about the same? The website specifies use on a specific rack strut.

3. and most importantly, maybe?
is this something that I might have in my nuts and bolts bin already that I just need to put together?? I can't really see what all the parts are. Has anyone crafted ab equivalent?

Which Champs Elysees front rack?  Constructeur style, or the Mini front rack?

They both appear to have threaded eyelets on the bottom of the platform, so you could use an arm (like a centerpull brake arm) from the eyelet to the light.  The Soma Wingmann is a new product based on this idea.

Use nylock nuts to help prevent jiggling and loosening.  You can add nylon/rubber washers for extra grip.

Regarding the Nitto Lamp Holder #6, its bolt is designed for the 7 mm struts used on Nitto racks.  If you have the Champs Elysees mini front rack AND its struts are 7 mm, then the #6 should be able to clamp to the strut.
The #6 won't work with the Constructeur rack because it needs to slide on to an open strut.

In my opinion the auto light on sensor doesn't work that well on the B&M lights and I prefer to switch mine manually.  For me the light is almost always on when I expect it to be off, so I just manually switch it off.

If you're mounting the light on the left, you'll definitely need a bolt that threads all the way through the threaded mount, and the put a nut on the backside of the bolt. Vibrations & gravity will make the bolt loosen on the left side.
I'm using a homemade mount (part of a centerpull brake), mounted on the left side of the same rack, with a long bolt, a leather washer, and a nylock nut on the backside. I'm using a battery-powered BM Ixon Core light, which should be noticeably heavier than a dynamo light. No problems with loosening that I've run into yet.
I don't think the Nitto nut would fit over the strut ends of the Soma rack as it widens to a flat piece to mount at the midfork mount. I do have that Nitto nut somewhere, so I could check for you.

I am using the MINI soma champs elysses rack. Therefore, the bolt could slide up the strut IF the flattened section is not too wide.

DAVID - would you mind checking if a nitto bolt will slide over the soma strut? - thanks

I have tried using an old centerpull arm but it was way too jiggly. I could just flick the light and it would vibrate.  I didn't use nylock nuts though - would it make that much of a dfference?
I know it's mounted on the left in this pic but I will actually be mounting the light on the RIGHT

I decided to go with the right-side Nitto mount (#6), and it works great with my Nitto rack.

David tested the rivnut on the Soma champs elysses rack for me and the flattened portion if the stay is too wide for the nut.

Thanks your time and help, David.

The search continues for good mounting solutions of the Luxos U to a front rack

Just in case people are interested, Velo Lumino is developng a new semi-universal headlight mount for front racks. It will clamp solidly to rack stays of 7-10mm diameter with included brass shims. It will mount anywhere on any rack stay on either side without an eyelet. Any standard headlight that uses a horizontal M6 mounting bolt (most Schmidt, B&M and Supernova headlights, etc) will mount to it, with either a bottom (standard) mount or a top mount (upside down Edelux).  Since this is not an "arm" type mount, it won't be as susceptible to lever arm forces as the arm-type mounts to bolt onto rack eyelets.

Stay tuned... should be available in a few months.

And don't forget, Velo Lumino already sells the fender headlight mount, which also works with headlights that use horizontal M6 mounting bolts.
