Planning a ride around San Diego Bay on Saturday 1/4/14.  Meet at Liberty Station at the USS Recruit and head around the Bay over to Coronado Brewing(http://coronadobrewingcompany.com/)then across the Bay on the ferry for the short ride back to Liberty Station. Open to suggestions. Should be about thirty miles or so.

Ride Safe,

Curtis

Sounds like a nice route and stop. What was your timing for this ride Curtis?

Hugh,

The path is very flat.  I am thinking about five hours.  Less if the the beer stop is skipped.  So a 2 pm finish.

Count me in. But please don't joke about skipping the beers.

Our extended forecast is looking good.  70 something on wunderground.  It could all change, but prospects are good at this point.

Is there a bikeable route from LA-SD?

If that's what you want to do then Amtrak to San Clemente South is probably the best way...others can weigh in Doug? I think this could work. Going through Camp Pendleton you'll need and ID like your Passport and a helmet otherwise it should be smooth sailing.

I think traveling through Los Angeles is doable but sort of a pain like the transition from South of Palos Verdes into Long beach the bridge's are narrow so I've been told. And you have to navigate around Newport Beach Bay. Other than that...it would be a cool adventure and I wish I could do it. Maybe in the not too distant future.

There are routes, but too may cars, stoplights and general congestion.  I like Hugh's idea... Amtrak to San Clemente (or San Juan Capistrano) and ride south.
Metrolink will get there too... slightly cheaper but less options on the weekend.

IF all goes according to plan, on Thurs. a set of fatty cheapo 650b x 42mm tires will arrive ... and then I'll try to mosey down the next day, ready to ramble the 4th.

Regrettably, tomorrow has been declared the day of putting away the Christmas decorations.  I would love a raincheck.

I believe the ferry runs every hour on the hour from Broadway.  So if you depart Liberty Station at 9:00 AM, a 10:00 AM departure is your best bet.  I take it you will "cross" back over in Imperial Beach.

May have a surprise over the weekend if I win the battle between the Tekro caliper brakes and the Nitto M12 rack.  I am currently losing.

Best regards,

Tom

Tom,

The ride will be diminished with out you.  We may cross the Bay west to east.  Be careful with the decorations.

Just got home from a trip north last night, and delighted by these photos. Can't wait to ride locally again.
