Hugh,
Love this stuff. On Sundays my wife and I have a 35-40 mile casual, flat ride to a destination that serves "Lavazza" coffee. When we arrive, I can hardly wait for my cafe americano. We usually have anywhere form 8-15 coffee lovers. The ride is kind of a "piano" ride. The weaker riders spend more time drafting and do not get dropped. Reality, it's all smiles at the end of the ride.
Hope you enjoy your Roadeo.
Don C.

Hi Don,

Isn't it just natural, bikes & coffee. For me there's nothing like a group ride with a beverage break.

Thanks for sharing your ride it sounds like a great day in the saddle.

FYI Bruce my brother has your old Rodeo. I'm riding one of your lightly used Selle Anatomica's on my 1984 Trek 660.

Two Smitham's on this group can be confusing.

Tail Winds,

~Hugh

Hugh,
In '84 I started riding to replace running. I was a college golfer and played after college in amateur tournaments. I had some serious back issues and decided to replace running with cycling after watching Grewal winning the Olympic road race in Costa Mesa. Golf became less fun and cycling became a passion. The rides that our group did always included a stop in the middle of the ride. To me it was the most important part of the ride ( conversation, camaraderie ). I was never a racer, but have ridden with a lot of folks that raced bikes. But, for me to think a ride is a good one, the stop in the middle of the ride has to be good.
I always saw Century rides as 4 25mile rides with 3 special stops.
Sincerely, Don

Really fun to read.  Your posts show the other side of LA.  It's hard to understand until you get out of the car & get into the mountains under your own power.  Hey, there could be snow in them thar hills if the weather reports are close to right.

Hello Hugh,

Thank you for the inspiration! I brewed my own coffee at the mid point of our 30 mile ride on the D&L rail trail on Sunday. On Saturday I had gotten everything together and brewed a mug at home to make sure I was ready for Sunday's ride. Fortunately I had a single burner Coleman stove (the type that screws onto a 1lb propane bottle) and all of the rest of the gear laying around from the days that I use to go camping in a Vanagon. Of course all of this stuff took up a lot of space in a pannier, but it was worth it.

Hi John,

Glad I had that effect on you :)

There's something special about brewing up your own cup of coffee outdoors and doing so under your own power with a bike. I'd love to see pictures of your outing not that I don't believe you just fun to see folks in their environment.

Do you have plans to do more of this coffee outside?

Tail Winds,

~Hugh

Hello Hugh,

Sorry, no pics from Sunday's ride. Here's a pic of my set up. We're out of #2 filters, so I'm using a #4. The 1lb bottle is kind of bulky, but I don't think they sell 1/2lb bottles. I'll try to take a pic the next time we're out.
