I'll be visiting family in Atlanta next week for US Thanksgiving. A friend of mine owns a bike shop here in Vancouver, but I'd like to find a Riv-ish bike shop in the Atlanta area that might possibly have shop swag for sale. Anyone know of such a place?  Thanks!

I've had the best luck with Bicycle South, which is actually in Decatur. They understand and support a really broad range of types of riding and are really helpful and friendly. In midtown Atlanta, there is a shop called Intown Bikes, which is good in a similar way, but not my top choice. They both at least have waterbottles with logos for sale, maybe t-shirts.

There are a couple I have not checked out that people really like than seem to jive with a just ride kinda attitude: Loose Nuts in the Grant Park Neighborhood and Decatur Bikes (also in Decatur).

Atlanta Beltline Bicycle is a great shop, but they mostly fix up old bikes to sell. They do repairs but don't sell accessories or schwag. But if you want to rent a bike for a few hours to cruise our new sweet multiuse path (the Beltline) they are a good place to go.

I've had bad experiences at Outback Bikes in Little Five Points, and Peachtree Bikes. They are more performance/racer oriented and very pushy salesfolk.

For the best local cycling schwag though, you might stop by SOPO, our bike co-op in grant park and see if you can pick up a shirt from them. If they have any of the sheep with two wheels available, that'll be the one to get. SOPO is a great organization, and definitely worth your support, but it can get busy at the shop on the weekends. www.sopobikes.org

Enjoy your visit and definitely bike or walk the beltline if the weather is decent.

I agree with Paul.  Also, there is a new shop in Decatur called Houndstooth Road.  They are a pretty cool shop specializing in comfort bikes of the European design.  They just had a derby tweed ride this past weekend.  Here is a link to all of the bike shops in Atlanta.  http://www.atlantabike.org/content/Map-Atlanta-area-bicycle-shops

I'll third what's already been said.  You could hit Sopo and then swing by Loose Nuts, both are in the same part of town.  The latter sells Surly frames and the like (they have a Pugsley demo that has scored at least two fat-bike converts I know of), and the owner seems knowledgable about the right influences, Jack Taylor, Herse, etc.  And I'm pretty sure based on what they've been posting on Facebook, Loose Nuts is producing some new shop swag:

Does anyone remember the Decatur shop that had the big bike effigy propped up above the sign? I never visited, but I remember it well. Is the shop still there?

That's Bicycle South. Always caught my eye as a kid and now they have most of my business. Still there and still going strong.
