Is there a list anywhere with the names detailing the chronological order of bike produced by Rivendell?

I think there's one out there somewhere, but I'll try to come up with it from memory..I've been following Riv since the beginning.

Riv Road
Riv Road LongLow
Riv All Rounder
Riv Mountain (my understanding is very few of these were made)
Rivendell-labeled bikes become custom as the A/R morphs into..
Atlantis
Rambouillet
Romulus and it's companion tall version, Redwood
Quickbeam
Saluki
Legolas
Bleriot
AHH
Bombadil
Roadeo
Hunqapillar
Sam Hillborne
Simple One
SOMA San Marcos
Cheviot

I think that's it, in roughly chronological order.

Betty Foy and Yves Gomez somewhere toward the end. Maybe between Hunqapillar and San Marcos?

I'm not sure where they fit in the list (maybe near the Quickbeam?), but don't forget Glorius and Wilbury.

Good list.
The original frame "catalog" pages of the first few Readers had the Road, All Rounder, and Mountain as the available models. This was in 1995.

The Longlow came into it 2 or 3 years later.

In those late 90's years, there was a also a very rare Rivendell Cyclocross model. The shift to the Rivendells-as-customs then made this a meaningless distinction. Legolas came a few years after that.
I can't remember if the Cyclocross came after the Longlow or before. I wonder which model exists in greater numbers: the Riv Mountain or the Riv Cyclocross?

The Longlow was neat, because I didn't really understand it at the time, but it ended up expanding my perspective on bikes over the following 10 years. I never owned one or a Road, but in the 90's, I lacked the hindsight to see how "Racy" the Rivendell Road is by my new 21st Century standards. Riding my Rambouillet (with its 700x33 tires), which is basically a Longlow, changed all that for me. For that, I very much appreciate Grant's work.

I can't believe I missed almost all of the mixtes. I rode a red Wilbury at Riv HQ, and dearly wish I had taken that baby home.

There's the Mystery Bike, too, which Pudge owns. 9 or 10 were built, which qualifies it as its own Rivendell model.

I didn't see the Appaloosa on your list (or is that technically the Protovelo "Mystery Bike" you're talking about?).  I'm referring to the big, green bike Keven rides to RBW.

Yep, that's the Mystery Bike, also known as HS and Bosco Rubbe (or was it Rosco Bubbe?). The Appaloosa name is apparently headed to a different bike which will actually see production.

Here's a Riv Mountain on Flickr:

I've never seen one in person but have seen maybe 2 up for sale ever. I don't know how many total there were.

Another for the list is the Clem Smith, prototypes of which exist at RBW.

Cyclocross vs. Mountain (or Mountain/Expeditiion) production?

Both are about the rarest.  I've heard rumors that there were less than 5 produced of the M/E - I had posted that same image of that one on the undeveloped "Gen1" page -

Here's a Cyclocross model:

I know Keven had a Cyclocross Model made as a custom - it was the Root Beer brown one that I saw him race on a few times - but that was after the Legolas run, so technically not the early version.

I had posted this list back in 2010 -

I remember seeing that mountain on Ebay some time in the last couple of years. Very tempting.

Mark A. and his wife have Riv CX models that pre-date the Legolas, I believe.

I wish!!!   They were either posted or linked on one of the bicycle forums I frequent.   They were too good to not save for my Riv "collection" of photos.

Yes, the Legolas was/is based on the Abele bikes. Hers is pink! :)

The original Heron Road (short reach brakes) was between the Atlantis and before the Rambouillet. Later Herons versions were produced by Waterford for Todd Kuzma (sp?)

I think there was the Road, followed by the "Road Standard" which is a little different. TT rise, HT extension, maybe trail are different.

I own a Rivendell Mountain. Have owned it since about 1996 when I finally got it from Rivendell. Originally, the Rivendell Mountain was supposed to have its own set of proprietary lug set and fork crown. I am assuming the low number of requests for it didn't justify the cost of making separate lugs for this specific frameset. In Grants earlier writing he mentioned some special fork crown that Marc Muller and/or Richard Schwinn had designed that he was going to use on the Riv Mountain.

I don't know if I ordered my frameset before I knew this, or after. I do know that I ordered it after the price increase. Finally got it after several payments on Christmas Eve. I remember having some exchanges with Grant regarding substituting some KGB (Breezer) dropouts for their standard ones and possibly going with a Rollercam brake on it instead of cantis. He was against the Breezer drop outs, but would allow for the Rollercam brake. I stayed with cantis front and rear. Mine is 20" in silver one color. I have it built up with Suntour XC-Pro and Wilderness Trail Bikes parts. I have it built up as a full suspension with a Softride stem and a Thudbuster Uni-Pivot seatpost. Using a Scott AT-3 multi position handlebar with original WTB modified Magura grips and ODI Attack bar wrap. Best bar wrap ever.

I have changed things out now and then, just to end up going back to the original set up. Changed out the Suntour XC-Pro thumbies for XC-Pro Wishbone shifters and swapped them back. Changed out the WTB SST saddle for a Brooks B-17 for a short while just to change it back. Currently have it Ritchey Cross Bite 1.4 tires on it. Looking to put some fat Schwalbe tire on it of some kind.

I keep thinking of further Rivendeling it with the Phil Wood Hubs, skewers and bb along with their Riv/IRD Silver shifters, but like the current build too much and don't know where to move the other parts to. Other than the tires, I plan on swapping out the Profile cage on the downtube for a Tallac stainless steel duel bottle cage.

Also, this is my first post on this list since it left bikelist.org. Glad to contribute again to this list.

Thanks,

Reginald Alexis
