my boss has a 58 Quickbeam. I have a 58 Simpleone. I've ridden both
and feel that I can sort of compare them. I've also worked on his and
built mine up so I've seen a lot up close.
I think Charlie is right in that the Simpleone has very slightly
thicker tubing....but that doesn't really translate to a "tangible
difference" when riding for me. I'm 150lbs. I THINK my Simpleone
has a slightly more raked fork than the Quickbeam, but I'm not sure.
The Simpleone has fancier lugs than his Orange Quickbeam. They both
seem to have the same geometry to the naked eye. What is tangible for
me are the front fork rack eyelets and the four top-rack eyelets in
the back which not all Quickbeams have. Also tangible for me means
having a kickstand plate which the QB doesn't. Also, someone at Riv
will have to confirm, but it seems from looking at the bikes that tire
clearance is just a bit more on the Simpleone, but I haven't
measured. I have been so happy I purchased the Simpleone. It's set
up as a speedy drop-bar single speed and I love it that way, though
I'm sure I'll turn it into something else at some point, i.e. trail
bike, grocery bike, upright, geared....since it's so versatile.
For $800 it's a no-brainer.
