I just got my wife’s new Platypus rideable, so she put 10 miles on it today.  It still needs fenders, light, and rack. and we’ll spend a few months doing the tiny adjustments so it feels “just right”, but she already likes it better than the bike she’s been riding for 20 years.
So mark her down as a new Riv Sister.

How wonderful! What is our new RivSister’s name? I’m so happy to hear that she is loving her Platypus, and I do hope you’ll tell us more as she gets to know it. Thanks for the introduction!

Congrats. Curious what bike she was riding before?

Welcome new Riv sister. It’s easy to put on miles with the Platy.

Her name is Lacy.  I’ll put her in touch.  She isn’t a member of rbw-owners-bunch yet, but we’ll see how she takes to the Platy long term.  We live near Atlanta on the Silver Comet, https://groups.google.com/g/bicycletouring/c/cFpcvUWqzkA , and the Platy seems the ideal bike at this point.

For Patrick, she bought a KTM heavy touring bike in 2002 while we lived in Germany.  With full shock absorber suspension, it is NOT lighter than your Platypus.  Let’s face it, it is a beast.  A pretty beast with a gold Deore LX groupset and hydraulic disc brakes, which served us well for touring, but she really didn’t enjoy it much over the last few years.

Welcome Lacy. If, like me, you have enjoyed cycling most of your life then that first ride on a Rivendell can be mind-blowing. I had no clue that a bicycle could be so comfortable, functional and fun to ride!
