The 16/19 Dos freewheel that Riv sold once seems to be rare and hard to come by.
It's no longer offered on the Riv site.  Does anyone know where to procure one?
Have you had good experiences with them?  Is there a reason that this larger spread is rare and the 16/18 or 17/19 is much more common?
I assume it's because dropout length limits the ability to use such a large spread.
Thanks
Jason

Call Riv. They'll order you one.

Or I think I have one I’d sell you, almost (or possibly actually) unused.  I can check tonight if you’re interested.

By the way, I LOVE mine on my QB. Works really well with the front ring options (whatever the standard ones are, I'm too lazy to look them up).

I talked with White Industries about exactly this (they are really nice on the phone).  They have had a bunch of people try to go with one chainring and the DOS 16/19 only to find their dropouts weren't long enough and demand a refund.  So, they push the two-tooth spread ones more aggressively and want to be extra careful that you either know what you are doing or are doing a double double setup with one of their 3T spread chainring things.  Anybody that can order anything from WI can get you a 16/19 DOS ENO.

The reason Riv no longer stocks it is probably simply because they no longer sell a singlespeed kind of bike.  Even for the Shimano BMX freewheel they still have on the site, it's their LAST ONE.  Don't be surprised if they don't re-stock that either.

Wow Bill.  Great information!  Really is too bad that a good product gets dissed because would be users don't understand its uses.

I've met the White team at the two NAHBS I visited.  Very good people who just happen to make wonderful stuff.

Thanks Everyone
I would like to get one for my SimpleOne with 40/32 crank.
I do have fenders...so not sure how easy it will be to move the rear wheel forwards and backwards..but I'd love to ability to go Hi/Lo.
Also considering a rear derailleur mod with a hanger.
Anyone done that recently?

I have a 16/19 here in Brooklyn with a 40/32. if you wanted to see that relationship in the flesh/steel you're welcome to have a look, or a roll if you can get a leg over a 68 quickbeam.

Check your LBS, I went to buy one at Riv HQ a few weeks ago and they didn't have it, stopped by a local LBS on the way home and they did.

The dropouts do seem just long enough on the QB with a 42/30 up front, anyone have any issues w/ that seutp on their quickbeam?

FWIW I've set up my S1 with a 20/22 rear, 42/44 front... Thinking back trying to remember what was I thinking... I reckon I didn't want to run short of dropout, but now reading this thread makes me second guess... Could have widened the range by at least a tooth or two.

Bobby, I figured since the QB  (and S1) come with a front range of 8 teeth, as long as I run them small to big and big to small, I could go with as much spread as I want in the back. So I went for the 16/19 Dos. Works great! So you could, depending on your need, get a good trail gear by replacing the 42 front ring with a 36 and should still be in the dropout range (though you may need to re-adjust the chain length, I don't know).

With two rings, the wider range in the back means LESS axle movement on gear changes. With fenders, you can set up a three tooth difference in front and back for zero axle movement.
I like the Surly Dingle fixed cog with a 4 tooth gap front and rear; 17/21 x 44/40, for example.

Well, thanks for all the info everybody...

I forgot that I had purchased this from a list member last year:

I think I'll skip the search for the DOS Freewheel for now and put this on with derailleur up front on my S.O.
Then the question is ...is the 40/32 combo a good spread (with a 16T in the  back)?.  Easy to change chainrings later.
I already picked up a couple of bits to route the shifter cable (clamp-on cable stop, bottom-bracket cable guide, and a derailleur hanger for the chain tensioner.
Looking forward to having a shiftable 2-speed.

hmmm this thread looks like a good place to ask.  I recently put my 40/32 back on my QB and need to adjust the chain for my WI DOS (just 17/19).  Does anyone have instructions for setting the chain-length?  Is it possible on a QB to cover 8 up front and 2 in back in all combinations or should i stick to big/small, small/big combos only?

jandrews, why would you need that tensioner?

oh. nvm, i just now see the part about you wanting to shift the front without moving the wheel.

Once you have the chain tension on the rear,
could and Simplex clanger for the front.
