Do I have to commit to it now?

I see you already did one! Yay! I'm seriously challenged as I'm dealing with water torture, I mean rain, I mean Hurricane Joaquin (it's actually been raining nonstop for two straight weeks. Everybody, including the bikes, have cabin (shed? stable?) fever.

Hopefully tomorrow is more promising...

I'll do an anti-rain dance for you tonight...and hopefully the rain will fall on poor old parched Southern California. Hope you get it in tomorrow.

Made it! Thank goodness for fenders. And sorry all the panicking on east coast made Joaquin go further east. I'm sure he would have liked to visit California. (Maybe someone needs to sing California Dreamin' with rainsticks?)

I reckon my dance did the trick! Joaquin moved on and water fell from the skies above thirsty SoCal. All is some what right in the bicycle universe.

I joined the club for a sunny-day open-wheeled roadster ride: https://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclotourist/21300051014

It was a different story today... much better coffee weather!

Now that's a contrast that shows the versatility of a Rivendell.  Yesterday's photo looks like rigged for winter.  Been mulling on fenders for the Atlantis, given the El Nino predictions.  After 12 years, it could be time for them.

Hey Doug,

As versatile as the Riv's are Mr. Cyclotourist has a few of them to aid in versatility :^)

Notice the handle bar setup.

Still not back on Betty. Surgery was pushed back two months. I'm five and a half weeks out now, and I rode the stationary bike at the gym for the first time last week. It may be a few more months yet before I'm back on the road.

Dear Cecily,

It'll happen! Very proud of you, physical therapy isn't easy. I look forward to seeing images of you out and about again.

Cecily,

My last easy bikepacking trip with my son has made me a whiny, whimpering limper.   I have talked to a couple of folks here in town that have had knee replacements that have said, "You'll know when it is time".  I will?  I have had eleven or twelve surgeries on various injuries and am burned out on going through the process....Ugh. I am now in knee conservation mode. I only ride when I have to (without a car, it's still daily).  What made you decide it was time? Your attitude is great!  I am excited for you!

I sincerely hope both of you recover and get back on your bikes....but it is hard to be patient, I'm sure. Neither of you sound a bit like you are giving up though and that's good

Best of healing

The thing that really made me realize it was time was not being able to ride my bike anymore. It was the last thing I had left (after being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis), and it was a huge part of my mental wellness, as well as the only physical activity I could do with only a minimum amount of pain.  Things had been going downhill steadily for about two years, but not being able to ride my dream bike (my Betty Foy) was the event that made the decision for me.

Cecily, I appreciate your advice.  Right now, I am saving my knee and not riding much. I think I'll continue with the injections every six months and plan on surgery (maybe) next winter. I HAVE to ride (for mental wellness -chronic severe PTSD) so I am in the same situation as you were. I miss riding in the mountains and I love being on the bike. Please, please keep me up to date on your recovery. You're my Gold Standard.

I am working on a new bike hack for quick release fenders. I'll share when finished...

Thanks and may the Pedal be with you!
Clayton
