I would consider that an homage to the iconic Atlantis 2. This post-fixie city bike stuff looks to me like it is for a different market than Rivendell's fan base. I like the clearance on their bikes and the no-frills approach. With that angle it looks like they are also taking queues from Surly. I bet they are good bikes to the people who want one like this.

Life's too short to take everything as a slight :)

Inspired in color only, Atlantis is not a fixed-gear city bike.

Wow, where did these guys come from? That's a pretty extensive line of city and cargo bikes. And "Atlantis Green" looks exactly like what it is: There's no other bicycle on the market which has held this one distinctive color for 15 years, so might as well give it the bike's name.

Funny, I remember people complaining a little with the introduction of the Atlantis and how the color was mimicking Bianchi Celeste.

It's a colorway people. It's not trademarked by Riv or anyone as far as I can tell and it isn't hurting the brand or image of Riv (the only way Riv could contest the issue). As previously stated it appears to be an inspiration point for a company trying to push cycling as a lifestyle choice for urban and suburban living in the USA.

Doesn't Riv refer to it as "Seafoam?"

Is Atlantis a trade-mark?

Yes, I remember that! The funniest part is that Bianchi considers their color a blue :)

I love the widely varied stories on the origin of "Celeste", my favorite being Bianchi combined all its leftover paint, and Celeste was the resulting color...
Surely there must be a Tolkienesque tale explaining the origin of the Atlantis Green...

I've had a few old timers mention that about my Atlantis.  Parked next to a Bianchi, it is a different color, though, and celeste Bianchis usually hae blue decals.

There's a mythical but possibly true story that the only color Bianchi could get post WW!! was some type of blue or green that became Celeste when mixed with Italian navy gray as a way to stretch out the hard to get paint.  The Soviet thing is the model paint we use to touch up Atlantis.  I think it's "Russian Military Aircraft Interior".

Funny.  When I was younger I read a novel called "MIG Pilot"* which was the story of Victor Belenko, the guy who defected to the U.S.A. via Tokyo with a MIG-25 back in the 1970's.  The book stated that the interior of Soviet cockpits was green because their researchers thought green was the most calming color.  I never quite pictured it the color of an Atlantis though.

* I was a kid when I first found the book in a grocery store.  Being a kid I could not afford it so I tossed it up, over and behind the bookshelf, which was probably 6 feet tall and about 15 feet wide.  Several years later I got a job at that grocery store and curiosity got the better of me so pulled that shelf out and there it was!  Since I worked there I had money so I finally bought that darn book!
