I often pray the rosary as I ride, and especially now for all effected by violence. Paris, Colorado Springs, Redlands/San Bernardino. May all hearts turn to peace beyond all understanding.

Amen to that.

If and when the manure really hits the ventilator in 'Merica, y'all are welcome up here in Canuck Nation. We do have some racism and backwards thinking, but thankfully no high-powered weaponry :-\

Yes, let's pray for all involved in these senseless horrors.

I appreciate the sentiment and let's make phone calls, write letters and tell the folks who can protect us with regulations and laws that we want them to protect us. If you want change then demand it.

All the prayers can't pass gun control laws. Call or write your legislator and demand change.

I hate to offer a counterpoint as I am well aware that the list isn't
super welcoming with differing opinions.

California has some of the toughest gun control laws in the nation,
what change did you want?
I would much rather request my legislator abolish "gun-free zones" so
that I am legally allowed to protect myself and my family. And by
expansion, other peoples families as well.

I think it's time for the list owner to end this.

What change do we want?

Well, since guns cross borders easily within the United States, I want a combination of national-level gun registration (a "well-regulated" situation, just as the Constitution calls for) and national-level gun control, which would be a limit to how many guns any individual or household can have.

Will that solve everything?
Of course not.
Just increases the odds of fewer gun deaths.

Dave, who brings this back to cycling by saying similarly that helmets do not solve everything but just increase the odds of fewer accident deaths

status quo is good since it constantly feeds the 24 hour news cycle until you want to puke.

more than 75% of the voting population is in favor of stricter laws. we must have a truly representative democracy.

Maybe everyone should ride bikes. They'd probably be a lot happier.

our founding fathers designed our republic so that population centers would not be able to dictate to the agrarian expanse, though their design continues to be chipped away

nor that questionably accurate polls could create legislation (polls are simply representations and inherently skewed by the people who answer them)

really a shame this thread has gone this way

I don't think any one perp has ever ridden a bike to and from an act of violence

Och! Kids, kids, kids, kids, kids.

1. Prayer in no way excludes action. Quite the opposite. It inherently leads to better action.
2. This is not the place to discuss what that action should be. Please don't.

Feel free to put this thread out of our misery if it needs it, Jim.

"The list isn't super welcoming with different opinions"?

Not my experience. Even on OT topics.

Can't we return to civil discourse over something we can all agree on, like proper helmet usage and requirements?

Really, try the mentioned helmet topics. Which I cant stand wearing
by the way.
Or the merits of any bike with carbon?

Other than the CR, this list is the most singularly minded.

Love the bikes, ride the bikes. Though I must be different most most
other cyclists in just about every single one of my beliefs.

Right, my mistake, I should have referenced other things we can certainly all agree on, e.g. politics, abortion, etc... surely all of us on this list who are here to talk about Riv bikes and bike lifestyle came here to agree with each other on these other highly-related topics.

sarcasm transliterates as "putrefying thought" - it's insulting to begin with, but gets worse with time.  Anyone you care for, don't do it to them.

The spirit of Deac's post was good.  The political issues behind the murders don't need to be discussed here, but they certainly have nothing to do with firearms legislation.

For someone who usually posts with a joking/sarcastic *grin* in his posts, it was nice for Deacon to show candor in empathy and concern for recent events that have happened. The original post was fine, somehow, this tribute turned into political debate.

Peace needs and knows no petition .  Peace is not something to be gained or lost, brought out or covered up, created or destroyed, nor subject to any-thing or any-one.

Peace is native to OneSelf . .   .   .  and prayer is consciousness of no other and none else.

Actually, the Deacon is “sardonic”:

"disdainfully or skeptically humorous :  derisively mocking” (from http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sardonic )

I’ll give Patrick the benefit of the doubt that he is not “derisively mocking” us … https://youtu.be/G2y8Sx4B2Sk

Actually there is something wrong with the topic, as it states at the top of this page "RBW Owners Bunch - Dedicated to the discussion of Rivendell Bicycles and products"

While some may say that Rivendell is a religion/cult, this is not the place to discuss religion, politics or guns you can do that everywhere else on the internet.

I move that we form a committee to hunt down and bring to justice those who attempt to discuss things other than which falls under the Riv lexicon!

Penalties to infractors will include fraying their cable ends, poking pinholes in their merino knits, and [gasp] imposing sanctions on tires wider than 25mm (!)

No exceptions!!

You've been warned ... (sardonic grin for Deac)

If you pray while riding a Rivendell and in time to your cadence, I think it is perfectly on topic.

This is such an awesome group.  After watching this thread nearly spin out of control, it really is inspiring to see how group members here have kept their heads, collected themselves and maintained a very civil, polite and respectful tone here.  I am proud even to be a peripheral participant.  Thank you for the blessing, Deacon, in this season of peace.
